Victron Quattro 8000 is raising frequency to 51Hz when the AC load exceeds 6000W. Off grid mode

I have a Quattro 8000 with

BYD B-Box LV 14kWh battery and the

Sunnyboy 5000 solar inverter

Also using GX console

The systems work great, until the load on the Quattro exceeds 6000W. When that happens the Quattro suddenly increases the frequency to 51Hz, shutting down the solar inverter, which sometimes leads to the overload if the solar inverter was producing power

The ESS and the GSX are upgraded to the latest version. The BYD is not limiting the charge or discharge current when this happens

This behavior also happens at night

Also: Lowering the load to below 6000kW immediately resets the frequency back to 50Hz

Hello Matthias

In a process of making the videos to demonstrate the problem, I have discovered that it is related to the PV array capacity, configured in the ESS. Although our system has a 5000w solar inverter, the ESS was configured to 400watts. Several years ago this setting was the only way to prevent the Quattro overpowering the battery near the 100% SoC. Changing the setting to 5000 watts resolves the frequency problem (and we will now test the system with this setting to see if it correctly de-rates the PV inverter and not overpower the battery, with an up to date ESS assistant). I am attaching both videos

1. 400w setting

2. 5000w setting

PS: One can say the 400 watt of PV with the Quattro 8000 would not be a correctly sized system. I believe this is why this bug might have escaped the testing.

I think you mean 6kW or 6000W load

Wheres the PV-inverter connected to, ACout?

Raising frequency dounds like the Quattro is trying to lower the PV-Inverters output. But it also happens at night?

6kW is close to the Quattros limit. An 8000 unit is able to deliver 8kVA or 6.4kW, with higher ambient temp theres a derate, at 40°C its down to 5.5kW

Thank you for the reply. You are correct of course, it is 6000W (already fixed)

The PV inverter is connected to the AC out. The frequency raise happens any time the loads goes above 6000W, regardless of the time of the day or the current PV production.

It is like, if the ESS assistant were hardwired to reduce the PV production to minimum (51Hz corresponds to the minimum production on my system) whenever the load exceeds 6000W
