Hi,
im am installing a victron multiplus II with ESS (Austria grid). The ESS is shown to be in off state
Multiplus does not who any lights in remote console.
How can i get ESS running?

What firmware is on your GX and inverter?
Do you see that your inverter is off?
ESS only works when the switch is in the on position. Or if switched off in software needs to be switched back on.
Switch is in Position 1.
In the inverter die charge led is on, inverter led is off
When 1 disconnect main 230V supply, ac loads an AC-Out get power from the battery. The inverter is than working as expected. But not when using ESS.
Do you have any other ideas about what I can test? I'm running out of ideas about what else could be the problem.
I see you dont mind digging around in code.
But since this a base program and can be made to work without know anything like that, lets go to basics.
Reset the in erter to factory default. Reprogram the required settings (monitor and ess assistant etc)
What battery do you have? Does it have comms with the GX?
Also why have you limited inverter power? Again reset the GX and start from base, get it working then you can alter setting.
Hi,
> Reset the in erter to factory default. Reprogram the required settings (monitor and ess assistant etc)
I already started with a fresh config (not loading the old one) and sent this to the inverter. No change. Is there a other way except updating?
>What battery do you have? Does it have comms with the GX?
It is a LTO battery 22 cells Yinlong LTO 40Ah. Currenty the battery voltage is higher than programmed float / absobtion voltage because I have made the configuration very secure for the test phase. I hope that this shouldn't be a problem for the mutiplus. There is no communication between bms an multiplus.

i limited it for testing. I can again reset the gx device (in a few hours when i am at home)
If the battery bank is higher that the inverter is programmed then expect a problem. Usually a higher than programmed battery voltage would indicate a problem in the system so trigger a no ess state. (Although what kind of voltage difference is there here?)
Passthrough happens for a number of reasons besides the meter issue the other common one is a battery not being allowed to charge or discharge.
Take off the limit inverter power and limit the actual load on the inverter. That makes a bit more sense that the way you are trying to do it.
Hi,
I have no set everything to default. Aborbtion and float voltage is configured higher than actual battery voltage, this should not be a problem any more.
In the VenusOS i have changed: Netwerk settings zu fix'd IP and Gridmeter to "Inverter/Charger" to exclude grid meter problems.
MP is still in passthrou.
attached is my multiplus config
The real problem is probably not ESS but passthru mode. On startup the inverter led is on. After exactly 1 Minute Charge led goes on and inverter off.
I set back the multiplus (startet with default settings in VEConfigure and sent the setting)-> no change. Afterward set back venusos with https://www.victronenergy.com/media/pg/Venus_GX/en/reset-to-factory-defaults-and-venus-os-reinstall.html -> no change.
I now tested:
Q4.1 : ESS → Control without grid-meter setting -> did not change anything
Q4.2: Systems with a canbus-connected lithium system: I have no communication with bms.
Q4.3: When charging the battery is not allowed -> charging is allowed
Q4.4: When discharge is not allowed -and- loads on AC-Out force the Multi/Quattro to exceed the AC input current limit. -> is allowed. Battery voltage is higher than absobtion.
Q4.5 A grid code is in use that requires the enabling of battery discharging by aux-inputs. -> Austria Grid Code default uses AUX input. I disabled AUX input for testing -> no change
Q4.6: LOM: disabled for testing -> no change
So no solution found. Currently I have no idea what else I should test.
My ideas:
- I have no pv inverter configured, solaredge is not supported yet. I don't think this could lead to any problems.
- as inverter ist starting when AC-In fuse switched off I think inverter is working correct.
I think I now read all threads about passthru but did not find a solution.
Is it possible that someone from the support team can help? Are same dbus values of interesst?
I wrote a short script to test mode 3. https://github.com/schenlap/victron_ess3_test
Result is the same, no feed-in. Interessting is that register /Hub4/L1/AcPowerSetpoint does not get reset after 1 Minute. Strange...

I did a FW update on my MPII last week and the raspberry pi that controls it. On boot, it went into passthrough. I thought maybe config had gone, so I tried to reload ESS via VRM. It was then that I realised that my pi had not connected to the Internet. Once I'd fixed that and I could see the installation in VRM it changed to bulk. I didn't need to reload any config.
I run ESS with the MP charging the battery, no PV configured and an external CT. Grid is set to France. Your description of startup matches mine. At some point, early on I think, there is a loud rattle as the relays do a test. Are you showing ESS relay test completed under advanced
