Multiplus does not charge while connected to generator

img-3980.pngimg-3981.pngImage CaptionHello,

The multiplus will no longer charge the battery when connected to a running generator.

Last week I bought a new lithium battery, and charged it with my Honda eu20is through the multiplus. It charged all the way to 100%. Today, the smart shunt says the battery is at 73% SOC, but when I connect the same generator to the multiplus, it goes straight to Storage mode, not charging the battery.

What setting changes did you make to the Multi and shunt to accommodate the new battery?

I updated the battery bank capacity in the smartshunt settings. But since the multiplus offers no settings without purchasing a computer and dongle I have not made any changes there, and they are therefore the same as before. They are both connected to the local virtual network.

The battery seller stated that the default setting of the multiplus (Gel, 14,4v and 13,8v) fits that battery. And as stated in the original post, the multiplus charged the battery fine earlier.

Don't use a gel profile on a lithium battery, they have different requirements.

It clearly isn't working now, so you need to properly configure your system and shunt to support lithium by using a lithium profile and the right voltages (Lithium has a different charge curve and voltage requirement).

It is unlikely to charge until you resolve this as the SOC will be wrong, amongst other issues.

Failing that, go back to your battery seller and get them to resolve your issue.

As it stands, your configuration is incorrect.

There are no charge profile available in the shunt settings, but the charged voltage is clearly higher than what the multiplus applies.img-3984.png

I increasingly regret buying the multiplus on its lack of functionality. Having to buy a GX device or anything else just for it to do what its supposed to do is just a moneygrabbing tactic. Setting a different charge profile should be readily available in the functionality.

This is an offgrid installation far from people, so I’m more likely just selling the multiplus and buying a more user friendly brand than to deal with this crap much longer.

The multiplus needs to be configured. This is basic stuff, well documented.

The community can't do much to help if someone is unwilling to skill up on the product, have the necessary tools and follow a simple setup, which is detailed in simple online videos and other formats.

None of this is the products fault.

In any case you have been given the relevant guidance, what you do with it is your choice.

Good luck.

Having been off grid for the last 5 1/2 years, my multi 12/1600 has been flawless. My Li battery is nearly 100% charged by solar, though the multi has been configured properly to safely charge from a tiny genset, and most importantly has been configured to shut down before the battery disconnects due to low voltage/SOC.

Before you dump your multi, it would be best to consider what additional interfaces other manufacturers require to configure their inverter/chargers.
