Victron Orion XS (the new one) seems to lose contact over VE Direct

Description of failure: Orion XS after two weeks of work start loosing Ve.Direct signal.Ekrano GX can see it, but Connected Status changing from Yes to No , and No to Yes every 5 seconds. I tried to re-install Ekrano GX OS with full reset to default settings I tried to manual update Orion XS firmware to 1.03 (again)

I tried to use different original Victron cables : 10m(inside boat covering) and 5m (direct to device)

I tried to use different Ve.direct connection : 1,2,3 on back of Ekrano GXIn same system I have Smart Shunt with Ve.Direct connection (10m) and it's works fine.

Any ideas ?

Kudos and thanks to Victron for monitoring these conversations and constantly improving things. They reached out to me to remote into my system based on this and determined there is a bug causing this. It should be fixed in the next FW release. This type of support is great!

Hi @Richard Leibov, @Olivier Hecht, @BlueMasters,

We've just officially released Venus OS v3.41 which includes the fix for the Orion XS disconnecting in some circumstances.

More information on this release is available here - https://professional.victronenergy.com/news/detail/263/

Thanks again for your help in solving this.

My Orion XS has been fine for two months and suddenly yesterday the VE.direct connection seems to come and go almost exactly every five seconds. I can see it disappearing and reappearing in the MQTT data. Is a loose connection between the circuit board and the VE.direct connector a known issue?

I turned off the entire system and disconnected the ground to the vehicle battery so there was no power anywhere in the van. I left it like that for a little over two hours. Same issue when I reconnected it all. In the attached video, you can see that the right Orion XS connects and disconnects almost exactly every ten seconds. This makes me think it’s not the physical connections anywhere.

Since I have two chargers, I also swapped the VE.direct cables at the chargers and the symptoms stayed with the Orion originally having the issue. The other one was connected through a usb adapter while the one with the issues was direct to a VE.direct port on the Cerbo GX. Now those cables are swapped and it’s still the original Orion doing this.

All the firmwares are up to date, and I did update the firmware on the Cerbo maybe 24 hours before I noticed this issue in case it could be related to that. About a week ago I switched to the Large Image in the Cerbo and activated Node Red, but I haven’t done anything with Node Red yet and that was a week before this issue popped up.

@Olivier Hecht There is a fix in beta 3.50 available for testing that will be rolled out as an interim release shortly. Perhaps test that beta and see if it helps.

I reported this months ago, and sent back my old unit due to this,
Hopefully now others are having the same issue a firmware update will be able to fix it.

I'm getting this error. Does it have to do with this same issue? screenshot-2024-07-25-103251.png
