Orion XS Equalising AGM??

I have just fitted an Orion XS 50A in place of the previous Orion-tr 30A which was perpetually overheating and not achieving the rated current. The battery is a victron 220ah AGM

I'm pleased with the newer model, smaller, runs cooler but I'm concerned about the agm charge algorithm. I've selected the AGM preset, same as all my other Victron products, the float/abs voltages are correct, but was surprised to see the XS go to Equalisation phase after Absorption.

I had thought Equalisation was not recommended for AGM and seems a bad idea for a sealed battery.

Anyone else have experience of this? Is it an error in the XS software ? Or are Victron now recommending equalisation for AGM?

I'm not sure how I can disable it? Maybe going to custom settings?

Thanks

Phil

You can set max equalisation time to zero in expert mode. Also the equalisation voltage. Set this to absorption voltage.

I'll ask Victron what the new recommendations are.

Hi, thanks for answering. That seems like a good work around. I'll try those expert settings.

Yes please do update us if you get an answer from Victron. I know others with this same setup using the AGM preset. Seems odd this is the only Victron I've seen Equalising AGMs. Not sure it's good for their health!

Victron confirmed the work around.

They also said the problem will be fixed in a future firmware release.

Thanks for reporting!
