Victron Energy BMV-712 Battery Monitor - Does it have Battery Discharge Protection ?

Hi Guys

Just bought a Victron Energy BMV-712 Black Battery Monitor ... just waiting for it to arrive.

One question I do have.

Does it have a Battery Discharge Protection function ... meaning that it will shut down/turn-off the batteries at a pre-set voltage, so no further drain of the battery will occur ?

I see it has an alarm ... but wondering if there is a shut down/turn off function at a prescribed voltage.

I see it also has a "Programmable relay, to turn off non critical loads or to run a generator when needed" ... but not sure this will turn everything off ?

Or ... do I need to install a specific Battery Discharge Protector Module ... something like this unit -> https://www.jaycar.com.au/battery-discharge-protector-module-m148a/p/AA0262

I'd appreciate an answer on this question

The BMV is a battery monitor only, it does not natively control charge or discharge of the batteries in any way.

Thanks for the email, Justin.

Hoping that I can get an explanation in layman's terms on how the "Programmable Relay" works on the BMV-712 monitor ... and can it be used as a proxy to obtain the functionality that I am looking for ie not allowing batteries to drop below a prescribed voltage.

Open victron in the demo library look up the bmv in there. Then llay with the theoretical settings there.

But it basically opens or closes based on settings.

The manual has the information you need

Pay attention to the capacity of the relay. You may need to use it to switch a higher capacity relay.

Hi @smclaren Have a look at the battery protect devices. In addition to being voltage sensitive it could be controlled by the BMV relay to utilise state of charge (connecting the BMV relay to the remote port on the battery connect).
