Cross bank charging in dual alternator/voltage system

I have a dual alternator system on Scania diesel engine. 24v alt for starting bank and engine system, very lightly used. Small 80amp 12v alt for house side which is pretty strained. Can I use a 24/12v DC to DC charger to add more current to my 12v side and relieve my 12v alternator? Will my batteries be confused receiving current from the alternator and staged charging from DC/DC charger? Will this setup do anything to help?

Thanks

For the batteries it shouldn't matter as long as you don't exceed the max. charging current of the batteries.

Really glad you mentioned that about max current charging for the batteries! Easy to overlook. I found a 120amp alt to replace my 80amp with and 120 is max for my batteries. I will not add the DC to DC into the mix.
