Which "charge current range" has PHOENIX SMART IP43 charger (12/30 or 12/50)?

Hello,

I have read the user manual for VICTRON PHOENIX SMART IP43 charger (PSC123051095 or PSC125051095). Now I would like to ask – whether I can "only" select the maximal charge current in the VictronConnectApp between LAW CURRENT VALUE and MAXIMUM CURRENT VALUE - or can I really select the charge current "from" MINIMUM CURRENT VALUE to MAXIMUM CURRENT VALUE - freely?

Here I cite the "illustrated" example from „original“ Victron-user manual (PDF page 28):

https://www.victronenergy.com/upload/documents/Phoenix_Smart_IP43_Charger_120-240V/Phoenix_Smart_IP43_Charger_120-240V-en.pdf

I assume - that the example "pictured" (in the original Victron-manual) is a VICTRON PHOENIX SMART IP43 charger (24 volts/25 amps). See screenshot below. The screenshot shows: MINIMUM CURRENT: 6.2 amps. LAW CURRENT = 12.5 amps. MAXIMUM CURRENT = 25 amps. Could I choose (On this charger) the charge current (in the Victron Connect app) myself - between 6.2 amperes and 25 amperes (i.e. 6.2 or 7 or 8 or 10 or 15 or 20 or 25 amperes)? Or would that only be possible “between” 12.5 and 25 amps?

These PHOENIX SMART IP 43 charger models are offered in the original Victron user manual:

24/16, 24/25 | (1+1) & (3)Output | 120-240V

Or:

12/30, 12/50| (1+1) & (3)Output | 120-240V

Unfortunately, I did not find any precise information on setting the MIMIMUM CURRENT value in the VictronConnectApp and in PDF-user manual. Could I regulate the charge current between 15 amps and 30 amps (On "12/30" model) - or 25 amps and 50 amps on "12/50 model" (in the Victron Connect app)? Or is there perhaps a MINIMUM CURRENT value – from which I could regulate the maximal PHOENIX-IP43Charger.pngcharging current (For example: From 1 Ampere to: 2, 4, 10, 15, 16, 17, 20, 27, 30, 40 50 Ampere)?

Thanks.

@dd33

You can change the charge current continuously between the lowest value of the "minimum current" and the highest value of the "maximum current". For a PSC 12/30 the range is between 7.5A and 30A - as per in the manual, which states:

Alternatively a user defined maximum charge current (between the minimum and maximum limits) can be configured.

The minimum and maximum limits are displayed in the VictronConnect app.

Hello, thank you for the information for PSC 12/30. Do you (maybe) know - what "exact" charge current range can be set in the „Victron Connect App“ for PHOENIX SMART IP 43 (12/50 - 1+1)? Thanks. dd33

This will take a while as the responsible developer is on his well-deserved summer vacation.

Hello Stefanie,

I would like to inquire - if your colleague has already returned from vacation? If he has come back - could you please ask him - what „charging current range“ („Adjustable“ in VictronApp) - the PHOENIX SMART IP 43 - 12/50 (PSC125051095) charger - supports? Important would be information about: MINIMUM CURRENT VALUE. LAW CURRENT VALUE. MAXIMUM CURRENT VALUE. You have already sent me this information for the PHOENIX SMART IP 43 - 12/30 (1+1) charger. For the charger PHOENIX SMART IP43 -12/50 - you did not have this info (at that time).

Thanks. Daniel

Hello Daniel,

And thanks for the reminder! I almost had forgotten about it.

The 120-240V models (full range) are fully adjustable between 25 - 100% (of the nominal charge current). The low current setting is fixed at 50%.

The 230V models: they are fully adjustable between 10 - 100%, except for the 24/16 (1+1) and (3), which are adjustable from 25-100%. The low current setting is fixed to 50%

I leave it to you to do the math ;-)

I hope this helps and makes the decision-making easier.

Hello Stefanie,

thank you very much for the information. "For safety's sake" - I summarize the whole thing now:

If I should buy „120/240V“ or „only 240V“ model - then I can set the following "charging current range" (In the Victron app) myself:

1) Model: 12/30 | (1+1) & (3) Output | 120-240V: MINIMUM CHARGE CURRENT: 30 amps / 100 x 25 = 7.5 amps. So I can choose the charge current "from" 7.5 amps (= LOWEST VALUE OF „MINIMUM CURRENT“) to 30 amps (= HIGHEST VALUE OF „MAXIMUM CURRENT“) - in the Victron App - myself (So e.g. 7.5 or 8 or 10 or 12 or 14 or 15 or 18 or 25 or 29 or 30 amps / So „any“ value). If I tap (on my smartphone) the "LAW CURRENT VALUE FIELD" in the Victron App - then 50% of the rated power - for the "LAW CURRENT CHARGE VALUE" - is "automatically" selected - which is 15 amps. (Because – LAW CURRENT SETTING is „fixed“ at 50% - in the VICTRON-APP).

2) Model: 12/50 | (1+1) & (3) Output | 120-240V: MINIMUM charge current: 50/100x25 = 12.5 amps. "Allowed charge setting range" in Victron app = 12.5 amps to 50 amps - in "single steps". When I tap (on my smartphone) "LAW CURRENT CHARGE VALUE FIELD" in Victron app - it automatically selects - the fixed 25 amps for charging battery.

3) Model: 12/30 | (1+1) & (3) Output | 240V: MINIMUM charge current: 30 amps/100 x 10 = 3 amps. You can choose between 3 and 30 amps - in single steps (So „any“ value) - in the Victron app - freely. If one taps (on smartphone-display) on „LAW CURRENT CHARGE VALUE FIELD“ in Victron-App - then 15 amps (= „fixed value“) is automatically selected for charging battery.

4) Model: 12/50 | (1+1) & (3) Output | 240V: MINIMUM charge current: 50 amps / 100 x 10 = 5 amps. One can select between 5 amps and 50 amps ("Any value") in the Victron App - freely. If one taps (on smartphone-display) on "LAW CURRENT CHARGE VALUE FIELD" in the VictronApp - then 25 Amps - is automatically selected (= „fixed value“).

I hope - that I have now understood "correctly" these informations. Of course I would like to have this information "before" buying a charger - so that I can buy the "right" charger. But if I have understood something "wrong" - then I would ask you - to write me still.

Thank you very much.

With best regards.
