MPPT in bulk while Multiplus Compact in Absorbtion

Hi all,

I'm trying to figure out why my Multiplus Compact unit is showing Absorbtion while my MPPT controllers are showing Bulk state. Currently hooked up to shore power to recharge batteries fully as my SmartShunt appears to be thinking my batteries are 100% full. Recharging the batteries to fully top them off and get them into float before resetting my smartshunt, but I noticed my MPPT controllers both think my battery state is in bulk.

Being in the PNW, with the current rain we are seeing, i dont expect much power from the solar, but I would expect that they would be sync'ing with my system.

Everything is connected to my CerboGX, my MPPT's are VE.Smart connected to my SmartShunt which is wired to the CerboGx. Multiplus is wired to CerboGX. I also have Touch GX50 as my display unit onboard.

I did come across your post today when trying to dig around to see other peoples threads. The difference with mine is that its not an ESS system as I'm on a boat.

One thing i am also noticing, Looking at my touch gx, the Multiplus compact is stating:

Connected: Yes

Connection: VE.Bus

But it isn't showing a State of Charge, which is interesting

Check what the gx is using for soc as well. But is is most likely the mix of smart and gx, you cant have two bosses.

Do you have the absorption set to the same value on both chargers? And if so, do you have DVCC enabled with shared voltage from the shunt? EDIT: I saw that you have the ve.smart network. I would disable that an use DVCC instead.

This is most likely the issue, you cannot use both a smart network and a gx in the system.

This is in the smart network manual under limitations.

Yeah this definitely seems like this was the problem. I also enabled DVCC which may have helped.

Not sure if i can change where the shared voltage is coming from based one what i'm seeing:

Looks like a mismatch between all the charger settings. They switch from bulk to absorption, and from absorption to float base on voltage. From what you're seeing solar is set higher than shore charging.

If you set the parameters correctly in the smart shunt it will synchronise properly to 100% automatically. As you're mostly solar, the trigger voltage should be just below absorption, with a lower tail percentage and longer time than default. Otherwise cloud can trick the system.

Okay well i've gone through some of the suggestions, it seems like the problem for the two seeing different states were due to the smart network! Both see Bulk/Absorption now!

The next thing I'm on to figuring out is why my MPPT's shut down when i either start the generator or plug into shore. My multiplus absorption is set to 14.40 while my MPPT's are set to 14.45(have tested going up to 14.65 as well), and float is offset by 0.1v(have gone up to a difference of 0.5). I would expect if solar is able to produce, it should produce as well as the charger?

I figured if the MPPT charge voltage is set higher than the Multiplus, they should in theory kick in?

On to reading docs unless someone has an idea!

What state is the MPPT? And is output current zero? What battery voltage does it show?

Charger is running currently. Overview of the system(it currently is sunny and solar panels are seeing full voltage(40v): Ill post some details on what the multiplus settings are and mppt voltage settings currently

You've got .1v higher setting on the MPPT. Set them both to to the same voltage and you should be fine.

Dont we want the MPPT to be set higher to signal it should be "primary"?

Seems like updating my MPPT to 13.44 float, and 14.4v to match my Multiplus does not solve the problem :\

I think you have a multiplus that's accepting settings, but not applying them. Did you do a reset on the multiplus?
