Dynamic ESS: battery balancing

On beta VRM we've added an option today that allows balancing your batteries periodically, while running Dynamic ESS. Balancing is keeping the batteries charged for 100% for a period of time to extend the longevity of the batteries. This is mainly useful during the times where the battery doesn't reach full charges frequently, which is typical during winter and the months surrounding that.

The system searches for the most optimal (most cheap) moment to do a full charge and leave the SOC at 100% for a few hours. At the moment that is set to 7 hours, but we'll make that adjustable soon. Consult the documentation on the battery on how often you should balance them.

Other than that, you can find the configuration under the battery tab of the Dynamic ESS settings on beta VRM and you will need to run either one of the later beta versions of the GX software or version 3.33 (latest stable).

All feedback is appreciated.

It seems to work fine. Just wondering how long the 100% state of charge is kept. In my case it was for about 4 hours, which was sufficient in my case.

Nice,

next step would be smooth charging and battery life+ with setting a dynamic maxSoC when battery is only working between 100% and 80% in summertime when using green-mode without the possibility to generate some money by selling from battery to grid.

Have I mised a setting?

In VRM I see the last three days the message Battery balancing scheduled for today.

But that is it

Good achievement!

However I would see following aspects for improvement:

  • Decouple the feature from Dynamic ESS (battery energy trading) as an isolated fuction. The battery management would be also resonable without battery energy trading.
  • For times of non-balancing, potentially a definition of max SOC could make sense as well.
  • The integration of adaptive minimum SOC would be helpful.

My current workaround please refer to https://community.victronenergy.com/idea/116815/batterylifeai-and-forecast-based-battery-charging.html

I've had the "Battery balancing has been scheduled for this day." message for several days. When looking at the schedule/energy graphs it is planning to charge the battery to 100% but never does so. I just monitored the situation during its last attempt and the charging stopped immediately when the absorption phase begun (battery percentage ~89%).

In the picture below one can see the different attempts it has made during this day to balance unsuccessfully.
