2 Phase Quattro 48/5000/120 setup will not take Genset Input on AC1 in

Hi, I currently have an OFFGRID system comprised of 2 Quattros configured as master & slave into a 2 phase floating phase arrangement. Recently got a hold of an used Genset and hoped to integrated it into the system. The Full System is as follows:

  • 2x Quattro 48/5000/120
  • 1x Color GX
  • 24x 12v/230Ah Batteries in a 4S6P arrangement
  • 32x 445w PV Modules
  • 2x MPPT 250/100
  • 1x 15KVA 3 Phase 120/220v Diesel Genset

Here a Screenshot of my current status, Voltage & Frequency are almost identical, but still no Passthrough or Charging of Batteries occurs, have tried to use an ESS, no assistant, Self-Consumption Hub, without any luck,

Anyone have any suggestions?

A 2-phase system will not accept the AC input if the two phases are in phase. Even with floating phase selected the phases need to be 120, 180 or 240 degrees apart.

The voltage difference between L1 and L2 on both the AC in and AC out seems odd, especially the output while inverting. The output voltage should be nearly identical not off by 10 volts unless you programmed the two Quatros differently. The AC input neutrals of both Quatros should be connected to the generator neutral and the AC output neutrals of both Quatros should be connected to the load panel neutral

Check to make sure you haven't set the acceptable AC input range to exclude either the low input on L1 or the high input n L2.

I noticed the voltages shown in VRM for AC Loads matches what's shown on the CCGX for input.

Thanks for the fast reply, think my follow up should been written here, but I didn't notice the Comment icon.

Hi there, just fixed the voltage, that was an error in programing the inverters, they now both at 114.5 and 115 v, the Input is L1 and L2 of a 3 Phase Genset, so 120 degrees between phases, neutral are linked, since the installation took place, L1 and L2 Inverter Share a common Neutral both on the input and output side (Neutral is not linked between ACin and ACout, except for the link that the Quattros may create)

The ACin Range is as follows:

So is well within the range of the ACout of the GENset

And charger funtion is on "Accept weak AC"

Don't have any Assistant configure except for AC2out on L2 "Always ON", to power WIFI and a Ventilator that cools the battery bank.

Do you have any suggestion? Of What may cause the problem, I'm seriously thinking of resetting to factory settings and reconfiguring everything.

Does the grid page give you any indication of why the Quatros are rejecting the AC input?

No info on grid Page on the Color GX regarding the error, right now i'm off site, but gonna be on site as of Tuesday and i'm hopping to get everything running smoothly. Gonna take all the tool I might need hope to find a solution, just wondering also about ground relays and those configs, could that be it ?

Sorry, Grid page on VEConfigure not on the CCGX

Could it have something to do with not having any Loss of mains detection active. I would imagine the inverter would need some system in place to check if the AC Supply (Genset or Grid) is present so it knows when to close the contactor but also when to open it when the genset is turned off.

Just checked the VEConfigure Manual, doubt this is a problem as it states that some generators may work better with LOM detection disabled, nonetheless i will leave my comment up just in case it sparks an idea in someones mind as to what the problem might be.

Yes, I had the same thought but in reverse, so I turned it off, to allow for irregular power supply

Can you measure the generator frequency with a multimeter?

I had it a few times that the Multi/GX device shows around 50Hz (Europe) but a multimeter showed more then 100Hz.

Connecting a load directly to the generator pulled down the frequency to 50Hz and the Multi connected to the generator.

Just recently went to the site in question, (14 hrs off grid trip, only sat internet available), Tested the frequency of the gent set, it was a bit to hi (62.5) calibrated it to 60.5 and load tested it, went down to 60, so that was perfect, and by some mysterious fluke, manage to sync to it, for about 5 hrs, but never again, now I´m thinking about setting up some voltage regulators, so the Quattro doesn't have to chase de Genset al over the place to sync, and a peak supresor , to smooth out the load on the gen set, Do you guy think this might do the job, seriously changing the genset is out of the question as it is a 13.5 KVA 120/3F Diesel and it would be bananas to throw it away ...
