Multiplus II 2x120V, can it sense L1 and L2 phase?

If connecting the Multiplus II from a 30A (or lower) service with a dogbone adapter with L1 and L2 tied together, does it know it's just 120V single-phase and ignores (does not pass-thru) L2?

Moreover, in that same scenario, would PowerAssist still work from L1?

from the data sheet:

The inverter/charger connects to the neutral and the preferred input line (L1). Power needed to charge the batteries will therefore be drawn from L1.

So if you have an adapter tying L1 to L1+L2, the inverter will ignore L2. It will pass through L2, BUT there is no voltage difference between L1 and L2 to any cross phase loads will not be powered - but will still have 120V on them. Power assist should still work.
