I have a bmv 712 with 500a shunt. Can I connect the negative cable of my 2000w inverter to the shunt to measure usage?

Yes you can. I am assuming you have a 12v system. A basic calculation example below. If it is 24v the system amperage draw is half so even less of a load on the shunt.
12v x 500A is 6000W - your 2000 watts even at 100% overload will not max it out in any way.
Hi, did you manage to fix that. My phoenix inverter is just arrived, causing the same question.
Many thanks,
Thomas
