Recently installed a new unit as per instructions, input is wired directly to a starter battery the output to the aux battery. For some reason the start voltage won't go below 16v hence the charging won't engage.

Most of the small 24/12's need a 24V battery as feed, with a a minimum of 16V. Are you sure you have the correct unit?
John I think you just pinned it on the head, silly mistake when purchasing assumed the 24/12 meant it could handle both inputs rookie mistake. thanks
