Safe to use blue smart charger without disconnecting the starter battery from van?

May be an obvious question but I’d prefer not to disconnect the van’s starter battery if possible

Hello Ironman, your alternator is also a charger and this is always connected to the battery. So Yes, I believe you can have the battery connected in your van and have the Blue Smart Chargers connected too.
