Multiplus 12/3000/120/16 shuts off after drawing AC inverted power for few min

Hi,
i have a Mulitplus 12/3000/120/16 in my van & when i turn on a space heater at 800w it runs it for a few minutes then shuts multiplus down. I don’t know if it turns back on as i have just rebooted it each time.

any help would be appreciated.

I have a 60aH battery at the moment but intend on upgrade it soonish.

I’d like to be able to boil a kettle during my work day. But is shuts down immediately when i swithch kettle on.

thanks

Clinton

What's the battery voltage doing when it shuts down? With that amount of load, you're pulling an awful lot of power for such a small battery. I wouldn't be surprised if it's pulling the voltage down enough to hit the low voltage cutoff.

I’ll have to do a wee test to see.

I also might have found the answer in another q&A,

i have 35mm cable from battery protect to Lyncs bus Bar & 50mm from batteries to battery protect. I knew this could have been a problem ans was planning to change them out but wanted to get it up & running & only had 35mm.

thanks

There should be a red LED on the Multi.
I also think it is a low voltage cut-off.

What kind of battery do you have? lead or lithium?

A MultiPlus must not be connected to a BatteryProtect!

Ok, I’ll check into it.

Multiplus its not connected directly. Multiplus is connected to lyncs distributor

when you say “low voltage cut off” are you suggestion that i can change a setting & it will fix the problem or i need bigger battery capacity?

As long as the Multi can't push energy through the BP in the wrong way (from OUT to IN) everything is fine. But to be sure can you make a wiring diagram or some pictures?

Yes there are many setting you can/should change.
You can do this with the DIP-switches inside but in my opinion this is to complicated
It is described in the manual but I never done it this way.
I would recommend to use VE.config or VictronConnect but you need a MK3 Interface for that.

Ok, if everything is wired as the diagram shows your good.
Maybe I just misunderstood what you wrote earlier.

But again: What kind of battery do you have? lead or lithium?

A 60Ah lead battery can't deliver enough power for your heater.
A lithium battery most likely can do that, but will be also empty quickly (around 40-45 minutes).

SuperPack or Smart?
https://www.victronenergy.com/batteries/12,8v-lithium-superpack
https://www.victronenergy.com/batteries/lithium-battery-12-8v

The SuperPack has a max. continuous discharge current of 30A (80A peak for 10sec).
The Smart one can deliver up to 120A continuous (<60A recommended).

You 800W heater needs at 70-80A.

So the Smart lithium should be able to power you heater.
