Cerbo powering question

Hi all,

I have a cerbo gx wired up. It should be connected to the load disconnect. But the load disconnect doesn’t have power enough to switch a relais (for the alternator) and you want to see what is going on and not have it switched off on a load disconnect. Is it ok to power it from the victron battery protect which is connected to the bms load disconnect?

thx!

Hi,

Take a look at the Datasheet. The VE.Bus BMS has a 2A max current on the Load Disconnect and 10mA on the Charge Disconnect.

https://www.victronenergy.com/upload/documents/Datasheet-VE-Bus-BMS-EN.pdf

If you happen to have a smallBMS, then that has 1A on Load Disconnect and 10mA on Charge Disconnect.

I was directed the other day at this video and is very useful.

I have my Cerbo and a number of other items connected to a Smart Battery Protect 65A. This is actually running on a non Lithium bank so set to cut out on low voltage, but could easily be connected to the BMS Load Disconnect signal.

At present both my Load Disconnect and Charge Disconnect are drawing a few mA.

Hey bathnm,

thx again :). I have the black ve.bus bms. It’s wired to a small deep cycle AGM buffer battery. Which is separated by a schottkey diode and connected after the battery proctect. So not wiring it from the load disconnect is ok. I was wondering if the powersupply cable to the cerbo gx was used for something else rather than just power. Maybe voltage sensing or so if you have dvcc enabled.

I would really read the Cerbo and other manuals. While in my opinion there is missing detail about communication flows and messages over various different busses, the manuals have a lot of good information.

The voltage sense on the Cerbo is received from a number of possible sources, such as BMV, and if multiple sources exists you can select which one to use.

Thx, I read about the sources but was in doubt wether the powersupply cable for the cerbo should be connected to the bms load disconnect for another reason rather then just powersupply. In all the manuals and schematics it’s connected to the bms.
