2.60 GX Firmware release causing instability with BlueNova batteries

Dear Victron,

With the latest firmware release 2.60 you have caused quite bit of a MESS.

Implementing a forced DVCC functionality for lithium batteries is highly counterproductive and causing sever system instability especial with BlueNova batteries.

THIS MUST BE disabled ASAP.

Hi @Erik

For now please revert back to fw 2.58 and contact Bluenova about this.

Can you elaborate what is going wrong with DVCC enabled? this should normally be enabled:

HI, the problem is that the SOC reset of BlueNova has got such a small window that a SOC drift is experienced. A 0.1 voltage drop in cabling MPPT -> BlueNova will cause that the battery will not synch to 100%.

Furthermore, old version of BlueNova Firmware do have bugs which will cause an overcharge of the batteries.

The forced DVCC function is a flop and only works in Europe where every installation is around the corner. We in Africa do have to travel 1000km to have problems fixed.

it is requested that the forced DVCC feature is to be removed ASAP and only manual DVCC to be implemented.

Thank you.

Hi @Erik

For remote installations it is -strongly- recommended not to update firmware when a system is running stable. Confirm the GX device is set to disable automatic updating.

About the batteries having bugs: please update them so there is a well working firmware on them.

Do you have information about what firmware versions of Bluenova is needed for proper DVCC behavior?

Hi @Erik

I've asked internally, and it is BlueNova that asked for this feature.
If you're experiencing troubles, please contact BlueNova for a solution.

For the inaccurate SOC calculations you can install a BMV or Smartshunt battery monitor.

Hi,

Forced DVCC ON is still a mayor concerning and causes system instability. How can Victron enable DVCC knowing than incompatible MPTT chargers are connected. This is a not acceptable and causes havoc in a system.

I do have a system about 800km away making use of a MultiPlus, 2x VE.CAN MPPT 150/70 ( the old ones), Color Control and BlueNova Battery. In manual mode there is a clear warning indicating that DVCC may not be used on CAN bus charges, yet Victron does not care about this themselves. The color control knows exactly what equipment is connected to to it and should thus be able to decide if DVCC is to be activated or not. Not everybody can afford purchasing a new system with each battery change, this might be possible in the Netherlands, but definitely not in Namibia.

Please do see to it that the firmware updates do not active DVCC automatically with incompatible products.

Thank you for causing havoc.

Hi @Erik,

I've written 3 messages here already, with the reason for this (BlueNova asked for it), and two ways to fix your problem.
-option 1 is to rollback GX firmware to 2.58
-option 2 is to use a dedicated battery monitor (BMV) to fix the SOC problem.

Please tell me what we have not yet done to help you here?
