System - Venus GX, Multiplus II 3000VA
I have set the charge current to 30A(rather than 32A) - I have tried to change the charge power in ESS to a lower value, but any change has not had an effect (eg: when I dropped the charge power to say 500W, it still charges at 30A roughly 1650W).

You can set the charge current on the Venus device (Settings>>DVCC). It defaults to 50A but can go down to 1A. If you need to limit charging to 500W on a 48V system that would be around 8 to 10A
DVCC must be on and you also need to check the settings in your VE Configuration and ensure you have selected "overwritten by remote".

another way to adjust the MAX charger power you can do this in the VE config program a MK3 is required
Yes, I'm able to use VE config. I thought ESS would be a bit easier to manage this
The ESS also can limit charge current/power - not sure which limit applied when - the VEConfig ( current ) on or the one in ESS ( power ) . Can some please explain the order of applicibility
