I assume by Glands, you mean Ferrules. It is generally advised to use Ferrules on connection points when you are connecting multi-strand wires . This essentially makes a multi-strand wire behave like a solid wire at the connection point. The connection is usually more mechanically sound. Splayed wires are less likely to pop out of the terminal and the connection resistance is lower and stays lower over time (Not as good as solid but significantly better than a raw multi-strand).
