Phoenix Inverter Smart 1600 - too much for my BMS - how to soft start?

Hi there,

I've got a new Phoenix Inverter Smart 1600. When I connect it to my battery, my (old) BMS shuts down. I assume the current charging the capacitors in the inverter is too high.

I've got two questions:

- How high is the current that this inverter needs when starting up?
- Is there any way to do some kind of soft start?

Thanks for your help!

Christoph

Yip, just search here, or via google for inverter precharge. Many topics on this very subject.

Is there any information how much Ampere the Inverter draws on startup? Phoenix Smart 1600 in my case.

There is no way that this can be specified because it is not controlled by the equipment design but by your wiring resistance plus that of any isolators and fuses. If you have a 12V system with a 10 milli Ohm wiring resistance then the inrush current for a few milli seconds can be as high as 12/0.01= 1,200 Amp. Better cabling = higher inrush. Simplest to just have say a 10 Ohm wire wound resistor as a precharge limiter.
