Servere RF noise on VHF band from Victron Orion XS 12/12-50A DC-DC battery charger

Upgraded my boat house battery bank to 2x200Ah lithium and a Orion XS 12-12-/50 charger. whenever the charger kicks in it's massive noise on the maritime VHF channel 16 (156.800 Mhz)

Noise appears both on installed VHF station and handheld.

I have installed ferrite rings on both the installed VHF station and in/out on the Orion unit.

Is this a faulty unit? Or are there any other things I can try?

Hi @Blouberg

Other users had similar issues and explained their solution here - https://community.victronenergy.com/questions/276162/orion-xs-safe-vhf-antenna-distance.html

It’s very dependent on the installation, so the exact mitigations will vary.

Thanks @Guy Stewart (Victron Community Manager) , you are right, it's the exact same problem.

Victron in Norway has taken an interest in the case, so we will try to swap unit to see if this is a faulty device. If the problem persist we will try the fixes described in the thread.

I am too having this issue - making channel 16 almost unusable whilst the Orion XS is putting out greater than 15 amps. It seems to calm down once the Orion is trickle charging / in float.

In my case, the Orion and all wiring is about 5 meters away from the VHF, about as far as it could practically be on a relatively small boat.

Can you please advise how you got Victron to take notice and provide any updates? I am thinking I should start by going back to the supplier.

Many thanks,

Tom
