I use an Orion XS as a DC-DC charger to charge my boat's starter battery from the LiFePO4 house bank. VRM shows it as a charging source to the house bank and labels it an "alternator". How can I correct VRM (and the Touch display)?

try renaming the Orion XS in the Device menu on the Cerbo?
I suspect that right now Victron has chosen to call it an "alternator" because this a typical application and because alternator charging sources are integrated better with the rest of the system. This should change and configuration options are needed for actual charging source and direction of power flow.
If you disconnect the VE.Direct cable and place the XS input after a DC System shunt then the GX device will calculate this as a load not a source.
