BlueSmart IP65 to activate Orion-TR smart

Hi everyone,

I have a VW Transporter with a smart alternator and an AGM starter battery.

I charge the Lithium leisure battery using an Orion-TR Smart 12/30 while the engine is running.

My question is: When I'm camping, can I connect a BlueSmart IP65 to the starter battery and let the Orion-Tr Smart charge the leisure one as it sense the correct input voltage? Are there any reasons why this shouldn't be done?

Thanks!

Yes, but the Orion-Tr Smart can pull more current from the start battery than any IP65 charger can supply, and considering the inefficiency of the Orion and losses in the circuit, it's not the greatest solution in any case.

It would technically work, but you might end up with a more depleted start battery than you started with, and lots of power wasted as heat. Why not just connect the IP65 to the leisure battery instead?

Thanks Justin for your reply.

Connecting the IP65 to the leisure battery would involve to install an external connector on the vehicle or run the cables through the vehicle's door.
Instead, I can directly connect the IP65 to the starter battery using the provided clamps.
