VE Direct latency

When sending a command to a VE Direct device (a ping, for instance) how long should it take to respond? Or, alternatively, how long should I wait before I make the decision that there is no VE Direct product present?

Hi @Ian0

If you are able to do that, why not just do that (send pings and/or commands) and then average the response times to find the latency?

It's the most trusted way when doing it yourself....

Because that tells me what the average time is. I need to know what the maximum time is, so that I can reliably tell if there is a device connected or not.

Taken for granted what Victron does when querying for devices, 5 seconds.

But then again, the average time will also give you an image on what's normal and then add something.
