Issue with Multiplus ll 230V VE:Bus BMS to Lynx Smart BMS

Hi I’m hoping someone can offer some advice. I recently installed two smart lithium victron batteries 200Ah x 24v. We ran using a VE:Bus BMS for two weeks while we waited for a new Lynx Smart BMS to arrive. After installing the Smart BMS the inverter now thinks there’s a low voltage and wont turn on? It seems that it wont recognise the new BMS and wants battery info from the old one? I cant pin point what the issue is but this is a best guess. It’s also giving a light sequence that’s not in the Victron Tool Kit app or anywhere online? I’d really like to know if anyone else has had this issue and can offer some things to try. I’ve de-powered the unit removed all the wiring and left it over night Then re-powered it the following day with no change. Tried to update the firmware but it seems it wont do it without the old VE:Bus BMS being connected?

I am not sure of the exact settings, but in configuring the Multiplus for the VE Bus BMS you select an option to use the VE Bus BMS as per either of the screens shown, I assume that you did this in the initial run. Yo need to go back into the Multiplus settings and deselect this option and choose "lithium iron phosphate batteries".

Thanks unfortunately I don’t have the ability to connect using VE Configure only have Victron Connect app and a Cerbo and Touch 7 and we are in a remote part of the Pacific at so limited with what we can do onboard. I was hoping there was some way to reset the multiplus? The system was never setup using VE Configure it was just plugged into the VE:Bus BMS and seemed to default to these settings. Seems crazy that you can’t plug a new Lynx Smart BMS into the batteries and not have the Cerbo send the new settings to the Multiplus? Why the system defaults this way then doesn’t allow change makes no sense.

This is what we ended up doing to solve this issue as we spent a few days trying to find the cause and then trying to find a work around. As I previously said we are in a remote part of the Pacific and not having an inverter was causing us issues. The solutions uses a Mac and it’s free!!

Ended up downloading VirtualBox which allows you to run a VM machine on a Mac. Our is an old Macbook Pro 12” from 2016 running Monterey OS. After setting up VirtualBox we downloaded Windows 10 which you can use without a passkey and then downloaded VEC Setup. We logged onto the VRM via a Starlink and went to devices where we were able to download the configuration file. Once downloaded we opened it with VE Configure and changed the battery type, which is under charger from Victron Smart Lithium batteries with VE Bus BMS to Lithium Iron Phosphate. Then re-loaded the configuration file using VRM. As soon as the file was uploaded the inverter started up and is working again.

There’s a heap of great videos online on how to setup VirtualBox and how to do the configuration file change. Really hope this helps someone else out there.
