EVCS setpoint option

Hi, I am using EV CS NS with v1.28 firmware in an off grid installation.

It works great in auto mode! However, if it were possible to adjust the setpoint being used to determine the charging current, it would make it even better. With PV surplus (some AC coupled and some DC coupled) I prefer to charge the car as a first priority, even at the cost of discharging the main battery by 100-500w rather then charging the main battery by that amount, since it will be charged once the PV generation is above the EVCS limit, or when I am not at home and no EV is being charged.

Just a thought and a wish.

Thanx again for all the good work.

You can modify lots of hidden parameters, have a look here:

Hi Lucian, thanx for the update, however, this still does now work if the batteries are charged (house batteries, not the EV,). I have a off grid setup.

when my main battery is charged, the MPTT is throttled down which makes the EVCS think there is not enough PV power and therefore does not use the full potential.

It works OK if the main battery is not charged, however, once it is charged, the algorithm does not regulate properly the excess PV power.

if only one could set the EVCS setpoint to lets say -500W, all the MPPTs would supply all the available power and I am sure the EVCS would downregulate the EV charging current adequately when a cloud comes along.

again, charging the EV is the priority since the charge current of the EVCS is capped and there is limited time to charge the car. the backup battery can be charged when I am at work.

all the best.

Can I have a look. I think it should work if it's configured correct. Can you give me the portal ID ?

Hi @Lucian Popescu (Victron Energy Staff)

Can you explain how this new setting works?

Allow low excess solar - the EVCS is not waiting for the system to produce more than minimum charging current, it can start if the power produced is lower. This is useful for cases where feed-n is not allowed or off gird, where pv is throttled when the battery is full.

Virtual battery - This is for installations with only PV inverter, GX and meter installed. And the EVCS can still work in automatic mode when that option is enabled.

But the manual will be updated soon, and I hope it will be explained even better :)

for future googlers, the answer was modbus setting

5081 'Battery powered'. BKPB balance power uint16 0 to 65535 500

in my case down to 0

Tx Lucian for the perfect support
