Multiplus 12/3000 High Temp Alarm Charging

Hello,

I've been chasing a high temp alarm on the multiplus 12/2000 (not multiplus II) for a few weeks now. After extensive testing this alarm to me appears to be a software bug of some sort. The alarm shows up on Victron Connect as a High Temperature Alarm and the red light on the multi flashes for 5 - 10 seconds and goes away.

The unit is a few months old.

If I switch to Inverter mode the High Temp Led goes off immediately.

There is no Inverter loads on the multi, all DC circuits are turned off.

The fan does not come on but it will come on at high inverter loads.

The alarm is only present when charging.

Battery bank is flooded lead acid. Bulk/Absorption set to 14.5v and Float 13.5v. Temp Compensation is -30mv/deg.

The battery sensor is firmly mounted on the negative terminal of one of the batteries in the bank.

IR gun readings do not show temps in excess of 31C anywhere on terminal connections, battery posts, etc.

Multi charge current is reduced to 80a.

Multi indicates 30C temperature above Battery icon on Victron connect. Verified with an IR gun both the multi and battery temperature is 30 to 31C.

There is more space around the Multi as what is required in the manual.

Everything works perfect on the Multi with the exception of the unexplainable red high temp alert/led light.

The test:

120V AC supplied to Multi.

Battery bank is fully charged, multi is in Float mode showing 13.34V.

Shut off the Multi or switch to inverter only.

Run a 10a DC load for a minute or so to drop voltage a bit so that the charger will go into bulk or absorption mode when turned on. Voltage shows 13.20 now.

Shut off DC load. No AC or DC load present.

Turn Multi to On.

Multi will begin charging and within one to two minutes in either bulk or absorption mode the red high temp light flashes for 5 - 10 seconds and goes away.

There's obviously no heat on batteries or multi as indicated by the above temperatures.

Given the high temp occurs when there does not appear to be a high temperature I will not know when there is actually a high temp problem.

I'm looking for someone from Victron to chime in as to what is going on here.

Thanks!

@ksbguy

For an official support request you need to go through the proper channels. The issue can arise from faulty hardware as well. Are you using the temp sensor on the battery post? Have you updated to the latest firmware? That is also a troubleshooting step to take.

This is not an official ask victron forum. (Even though they do hang around here).

Thank you for the response.

The temp sensor is on battery negative, mentioned above.

It's the latest version v5.10.

How does one go through the proper channel to contact Victron? Everything I've researched points back to the original dealer, they have been very helpful but has not seen this problem and has not been able to help me yet...

I've taken every troubleshooting step I can take at this point...

Yes it's via the dealer. Lean on them a little. They have a direct escalation path.
