UPDATE 2024-03-03: v3.30~11 available for testing

Good day!

A fresh and clean new thread about the Venus OS v3.30 beta series. Aside from various minor fixes and improvements, v3.30 beta series now come with three highlights:

  1. Peak shaving for ESS systems with an energy meter
  2. Dynamic ESS
  3. gui-v2 beta

I'll first of all go through each of those in detail, and for the full change log see below.

How can you help? Mostly by testing point 1, peak shaving for ESS systems. When wanting to test this, take note of the required update to the ESS Assistant (!).

Yours sincerely,

Matthijs Vader

Highlight 1: Peak shaving for ESS systems with an energy meter

Also known as the ESS system AC current limits.

The big thing new here is that you can set an input current as well as export current for systems having an Energy Meter. The limit is applied to the whole system.

This means it also takes EV Chargers, heat pumps or other high power loads into account, which are often installed in parallel to the inverter/charger system, rather than on the output.

It will, for example reduce battery charging in case the available current budget is already taken up by the EV Charger and other loads. To prevent tripping the main fuse of the building.

Until this feature, our peak shaving an current limiting features were bound to the inverter/charger, ie didn't work for loads behind the ESS energy meter. This new feature greatly expands our peak shaving capabilities.

Here are the new settings, you can find them in the Settings -> ESS menu in the GX.

1709207418496.png

How does it work?

As you’d expect, it monitors the current and when needed engages to keep that within the configured limits:

  • to prevent overcurrent during export, system limits solar production and battery discharge.
  • to prevent overcurrent during import, system limits battery charging.
  • to prevent overcurrent during import because of loads, system will assist using battery power. (As long as battery permits of course).
  • In case SOC is dropped more than 5% below configured ESS minimum SOC, the battery will be recharged from the grid as soon as loads drop.

Requirements and other details:

  1. The feature is part of ESS; and applies to MultiPlus, Quattro, MultiPlus-II and so forth. The Multi RS will come with the same feature when we release Energy Meter and ESS support for that, but thats a different project and implementation.

  2. NOTE: The function properly, the inverter/charges require an updated ESS Assistant, which you need VEConfigure for. The required version of the ESS Assistant is 018C.

  3. About the existing "Limit system feed-in" option in the ESS menu, in watts: if you have both set, the lower of the two is followed for feeding in DC-coupled PV.

  4. The GX does not limit PV-inverters in relation to the new export current limit. To illustrate: in case of major solar production, plus high tariff on selling energy to the utility, the new mechanism will limit feed in of power from the battery to 0. So, as long as the installed PV Inverter system is done such that it can’t by itself blow the fuse then its fine.

  5. Works with all ESS supported energy meters.

Three phase operation details:

  1. When the import/export limit is not being exceeded on any phase, the system operates normally, according to the "Multiphase regulation" setting.

  2. If the current limit is exceeded on any one phase, in either direction, power will be moved to other phases in equal measures.

  3. If all phases are maxed out and more power is needed to power the loads without exceeding the BMS limits, all phases are overloaded equally, to have the lowest chance of tripping a breaker or blowing a fuse.

  4. Power will be passed through the DC bus to accomplish this goal, even if Multiphase regulation is set to "total of phases".

How to test?

Applies to ESS systems, having an Energy Meter such as the VM-3P75CT.

First ofcourse update the GX and update the ESS Assistant. Warning: only do that when you are familiar with our inverter/charger configuration tooling.

Next, set a current limit, and verify that under various conditions the systems keeps the current at the meter below the limit. Note that that doesn't happen instantaneously; also doesn't need to happen instantaneously: fuses are slow.

Highlight 2: Dynamic ESS

Per this latest beta we're getting real close to the official release of Dynamic ESS. Finally! As people that have followed the development of that it has taken quite some time. More time then expected or desired - but we're keen to first make it really good. And that is not easy with such a complicated feature; which as per what and how it is has the "risk" of being a feature that causes a significant amount of time for installers in answering questions from their customers.

But, latest tests and feedback are really good and promising; and with the Peak shaving aka Current limiting also up for testing, we're really close!

To learn more about Dynamic ESS, see here: https://community.victronenergy.com/articles/256073/dynamic-ess-on-beta-vrm-part-4.html

Highlight 3: our new UI, gui-v2 beta

1700597863477.png

Available in public beta testing for several months already; and receiving continuous updates and progress towards official release.

The details:

  • It is still in beta, porting all the features and functions of the old UI over to the new one is an enormous task, and I expect that to take several more months.
  • Beta testing is best done using a browser, http://<ipaddress>/gui-beta. And you need to enable the MQTT on LAN (Plaintext) setting for that to work, but having it on screen on an Ekrano GX as well as GX Touch is possible as well.
  • More screenshots and details are in this presentation:

    https://bit.ly/gui-v2

  • Known issues - no need to give comments or answers on these, they are being worked on:
    • Notifications don’t work yet
    • Setting the brightness as well as screen saver / display off doesn’t work yet
    • Keyboard navigation is not yet supported in the Remote Console
    • Drill down for AC loads, showing the split between normal and critical loads is not available yet
    • Solar and wind priority controls are missing.
    • Connecting to wifi / setting wifi password doesn’t work.
    • Weather in side-pane doesn’t work yet.
    • The arcs aka gauges on both brief page and overview page don't work well yet.
    • Orion XS visualisation.
    • Various other things.

Instructions: Venus OS beta testing & how to join/install

In case you don't know what this message is about, please start with reading this link, which explains the Venus OS beta program. Venus OS is the software running on all our GX devices, such as the Cerbo GX.

Instructions: How to post an issue?

By posting an answer below. Do please keep all findings organised: one answer issue per issue. So first check the existing threads if your issue has already been seen. And if it does, add a comment saying "me too". And preferably some more details. And in case its not listed yet, add a new Answer.

Note that Answers and Comments are two different things on this portal.

Lastly, before posting issues, preferably first revert to the latest official release (v3.10), to double check if the issue you're seeing was present there as well. Regressions require a different treatment than other issues and bugs.

And include information about the results/differences in behaviour in your report.

Instructions: Node-RED, Kevin’s GuiMods or other add-ons?

In case you are running Node-RED or SignalK, then please at least say so in your bug report.

GuiMods and other 3rd party add-ons: don’t report your gui issues here. Do it elsewhere instead.

Changes made by us can cause a compatibility issue with the GuiMods; and these betas report pages are for official firmware only.

Change log

Changes v3.30~19 till 21

  • Dynamic ESS fix: When the target has been reached, and grid feed-in is not allowed, allow DC-coupled PV to be used directly for loads. Previously, loads were powered from the grid, and the PV charged the battery in that situation.

gui-v2 beta:

  • Add support for Orion XS devices
  • Tank gauges updated the new design
  • Add handling for tanks that lack remaining and capacity values
  • Various fixes to the battery settings
  • Regression fixes: broken idle mode, jumpy main settings, page navigation stuck
  • Press effect for the buttons and list items
  • Download and upload translations to poeditor with token
  • Improve generator engine parameter handling
  • Toggle status LEDS on/off from General settings (Cerbo GX)
  • Only show 'Silence alarm' button when on Notifications page
  • Show 'C' and 'F' temperature units together with degrees symbol
  • Make the wasm version work over HTTPS
  • Various smaller bug fixes and improvements

Remote Console on LAN:

  • Make entering a password work when using on HTTPS.

Changes v3.30~18

  • Update translations

Changes v3.30~16 & v3.30~17

  • Dynamic ESS
    • Fix issue where battery was always charging at full speed if grid feed-in is set to not allowed for the installation. Now, as was already the case for all other systems, Dynamic ESS calculates the required charge rate to meet the target SOC at the end of the hour
    • Increase charge rate with 10% to better meet the target SOC. (much better to get there a little earlier rather than not at all)
    • Fix issue where PV is not used for loads when feed-in is disallowed and SOC target is 100%
    • Fix bug where in some case loads were powered from the grid when they could be powered from the battery.
    • And more Dynamic ESS improvements and bug fixes
  • Modbus-TCP
    • Add registers 4609 to 4612 for controlling the ESS functions of the Multi RS
    • Add registers 142, 143 and 144 for enabling/disabling the UPS function on Multis and Quattros
    • Add register 105 to trigger a redetect by the GX of a VE.Bus system.
  • Cerbo GX: fix missing restart of the UI after hotplugging a GX Touch. This was broken in v3.20 or earlier.

Changes v3.30~14 & v3.30~15

  • Fix low and high battery voltage alarms bug for the MPPT RS, by removing them. These alarms and notifications were added, by accident, in Venus OS v3.20 - and don't work well and should have never been there. Today we also removed them from VRM Portal; regardless of Venus OS version. Apologies to anyone that has seen or received these, rather confusing since not configurable or documented, alarms!
  • Dynamic ESS: fix internal bug.
  • Internal changes in the VE.Bus communications driver

Changes v3.30~12 & v3.30~13

  • MFD Marine HTML5 App
    • Improved performance, especially loading (mqtt and gzip)
    • Fixed fahrenheit support
    • Fixed tank gauges flickering bug
    • Fixed sensors not visible
    • Improved tank gauges responsiveness, alignment and icon shrinking
    • Improved battery gauges responsiveness
  • gui: remove the "alarm relay on" toggle. There was a bug in it, and the relay can already be controlled in manual mode or by setting the polarity, so instead of fixing the forced alarm relay on toggle it is simply removed.
  • gui: fix the backlight off feature. Note that this still needs fixing for gui-v2.
  • Internal: change certain data paths related to the RS & Alarms and the settings for Alarms.
  • gui-v2 in the browser on local network: add support to open it on https, ie https://venus.local/gui-beta. Note that as usual for these things, it requires the user to accept invalid certificate which the browser warns about.

Venus OS Large

  • ncu -u updates
  • github action update for node 20
  • Output enumerated value as msg.textvalue: For input nodes that use an enumerated value as data, also output the textual value as msg.textvalue. For these nodes also show this textual value in the status text.
  • Updated documentation link

Changelog v3.30~11

  • gui: move current limit settigns for ESS systems with energy meter into their own submenu
  • gui-v2 beta:
    • Add swipe-based navigation for main pages

      Implement notifications/alarms support

Support scaling value ranges in value formatting

Reload web browser page upon firmware update

      Implement screen brightness settings support

      Update translations

      Improve MQTT websocket disconnection handling

      Redesign environment gauges

      Various bug fixes

  • VE.Can driver: fix Lynx Smart BMS related bug related to a false alarm on VRM.

Changes v3.30~8, 9 and 10

  • ESS: current limit for systems with energy meter (this is a new feature per v3.30 beta series - see above for details).
    • Now requires ESS Assistant version 018C.
    • Fix that in ESS mode Keep Batteries Charged, or at any time when the system was charging the battery, for example if DESS required it, scheduled charging instructed it, or a BMS forced charging, and if the battery became full during this time, then PV could not be used for loads.
    • Fix excess DC-coupled PV feeding into the grid could exceed the export limit.
  • Alarms and warnings: fix that also warnings triggered the buzzer. Only alarms should do that. Bug was introduced earlier in v3.30 beta series.
  • Generator start/stop module integration:
    • ComAp: Fix coolant temperature and oil pressure register decimals (backport candidate)
    • DSE: Add DSE 6120 generator controller support
  • Alternator controller integration:
    • Add DVCC support for the Wakespeed WS500.
    • Various improvements to related alarms and warnings.
  • Energy Meter VM-3P75CT: Fix bug that (sometimes) caused the VM-3P75CT to not be read out properly – when connected over VE.Can. Also released as Venus OS v3.22 official

Internal:

  • Change backlight and implementation related settings to prepare it for gui-v2.

Venus OS Large:

  • Node-RED: add read-out + control of the Cerbo GX status LEDs via the settings nodes.
  • SignalK Server: Fixes N2K not being configured out of the box for Ekrano, while it is for Cerbo GX & Venus GX.

Changes v3.30~7

  • Fix MQTT issue causing issues on installations where many write topics (W) were sent. Just like the bug fix related negative numbers, see below as well as v3.21 official release, this write-topics bug also affected systems with customer-own software, for example special control loops that run a different ESS algorithm than the standard Victron one. The bug was introduced per v3.20, last week.

As far as we've seen so far, this fixes all reported and known MQTT issues that were related to v3.20 which had quite many deep level changes with regards to its MQTT implementation. Too bad ofcourse that despite months of testing we never found those, but at least with the help of various people reporting them and allowing us to access their systems we were able to fix them quickly.

For a full overview, of the issues, see this post here on Community.

And the -today updated- migration chapter in the new MQTT on Venus OS documentation.
  • Improve gui-v2 load time when accessed over the VRM Portal; and yes! this means its now possible to access the gui-v2 on VRM.

To use it, you'll need to modify your URL in your browser by hand to https://vrm.victronenergy.com/remote-console-2/123456; in which 123456 is the number that is always in the URL when looking at an installation in VRM.

Soon, we'll add a link to the menu on VRM.

Changes v3.30~4 -> v3.30~6

  • Fix MQTT issue that prevented writing negative numbers over MQTT, for example to ESS set points. Affects systems with customer-own software that writes there; introduced per v3.20.
  • Improve robustness of remote firmware updates of the Victron VN-3P75CT Energy Meter. Thank you @Markus for helping to fix this!

(below items were added per 2024-02-19)

  • gui-v2 beta v0.2.10
    • Fix keyboard not working when using gui-v2 in a browser
    • Add translations (Chinese and Thai are not supported when using it in the browser)
    • Fix Wi-Fi access point disabling
    • Fix enabling DVCC causing disabling toast
    • Fix nav bar getting stuck after visiting settings
    • Enable generator auto-start when the respective switch is checked.
  • Complete the disable LEDs feature on the Cerbo GX.
  • Modbus-TCP, add Orion XS registers:
    • Registers for input voltage/power

    • Fix bugs related to data validity checks
    • Fix property shadowing bug in ArcGauge
    • Show solar tracker name in history views if available
    • Fix bug in changing multiplus mode of Ve.Bus BMS v2 devices
    • Prevent closing modal dialogs with outside-clicks
    • Remove auto color mode, only dark+light is supported
    • Various bug fixes in tanks, i/o settings, battery details
  • Add low battery alarm for the wireless Ruuvi temperature tags, this is for the small coin battery in the Ruuvi tag.
  • Includes certain features that were disabled during gui-v2 release, on of which are the recently introduced AC current limits for ESS systems with energy meters. (I'll expand this entry later)

Under water:

  • Change notifications/warnings/alarms mechanism to prepare for gui-v2
  • Multi RS: add control points for, for example Dynamic ESS, to D-Bus. Not used yet by the upper layers in software.

gui-v2 screenshots:

There is a new page, called Brief:

1700597863477.png

The button on the upper right opens and closes a side pane for it:

1700597875345.png

The overview page has been redesigned as well. And the idea behind it is different. Rather than an (almost) correct electrical diagram, its more a functional one. With all generation on the left, conversion & storage in the middle, and consumption on the right.

1700599761868.png

Above is the dark mode. There is also a light mode:

1700597940491.png

And its no longer necessary to go deep into the Device list to, for example, start and stop the generator or modify the shore current limit. Day to day controls are now accessible using that small button on the top left. Here is how those controls look:

When Victron creates an official release, the beta version is no longer available. It is not a good idea to remain on a beta version after the official release is available.

One issue with this is during gui-v2 development, the beta GUI is not available after the release. This is a temporary problem and as soon as a new beta cycle starts, it will be available again.

It is important that automatic updates are disabled during this phase and is generally a good idea when running beta code since you want to control when your system updates.

hey @Andrii Podanenko you need a grid meter for that, like VM-3P75CT or EM540 and similar. Looks like your system is an ESS system without grid meter.

Bug in first relay when set to alarm.

toggling Alarm relay On toggles the state of the SECOND relay, not the first one.

This is in v3.30~3 thru ~10 but not in v3.21 or 3.22

In v3.21 and previous versions the code for that switch use Relay.relayOn for state display and changes. But in v3.30~7, the code is relay1Item.getValue() and relay1Item.setValue(checked). relay1Item binds to com.victronenergy.system/Relay/1/State not com.victronenergy.system/Relay/0/State.

I posted this to v3.30~7 thread also but realized this is a more recent thread and more likely to be noticed, and it is still happening in ~10. Forgive the double post.

Not sure where to put this, but thought I would try here since this is about firmware development after all.

I appreciate the recent addition of support for more Mopeka sensors. Would it be possible to add high and low level tank alarms like we have with the analog tank inputs?

Hey @mvader (Victron Energy), perhaps some day; but its not a simple trivial thing to make: normally we'd have such alarms made in the sensor itself; but Mopeka are not our sensors.

Thank you for the integration of the different languages. However, a small mistake was made in the translation of "to go" into German, as there are two meanings.
A more appropriate translation would be e.g. "verbleiben".

Hey Daniel, I found your system and took the liberty to login, the problem is a full data partition on the GX. Mostly SignalK log files.

Shall I delete them? The only use case where you'd want to keep them that I know of is if you're quite a hard core SignalK developer.

More on them here: https://www.victronenergy.com/live/venus-os:large#disk_space_issues_data_partition_full

ps; I deleted the oldest file, you're signalk server runs again.

But you have other issues as well, at least possibly. Your root partition is also full. I don't know why, and see many mods and things. Which is (a) not something I or anyone else from Victron can you help with, and (b) not something for in this beta thread I'm afraid.

If you need help with either, then I recommend to either find the Discord SignalK chat app; or post a new thread in the modifications channel.

Hope you get it sorted! And when you're at your boat again, make sure to delete all signalk server log files, you can do that with a usb stick, read the link that I posted carefully.

note that your signalk settings have been reset to default, due to the full data partition. I was not able to recover them. I've filed an issue to see if that can be prevented from happening, at the signalk-server pple.

I usually update the cerbo GX using an USB stick. After the update I always (not only with the 3.30~11 Version) have the problem that there is no menu item to safely remove the USB stick.
The USB stick is not listed in the menu of the VRM online portal.
The Cerbo GX is not connected to the VRM online portal.

Just thinking -using the DESS system is it possible we can have a simple box which states the battery charge level for the 'next period'.

The reason for this is so we can see how much DESS plans to import on the coming day, as at the moment I don't find the information shows this correctly on the charts.

I was looking forward to "redesigned environment gauges" in ~11, but I do not see this change for the better:

1709530033568.png

There is just more spacing between temperature sensors, now only fitting 2 and half (was 4 in previous versions), while the scales stay the same - colors not having much meaning as I have to search for small white line and then try to read the value.
Why is color of the bar not used to indicate the level? Really no value in showing complete scale of colors (almost liike legend) in each scale.

I concur, the spacing on the temperature gauges is too much, all mine (4 wired to Cerbo plus one Ruuvi) used to appear on one screen without need for scrolling. The tanks remain well spaced.

I agree that this could be improved. at first impression was WOW, but more I use it, I see that it's a bit lacking functional information design. I use like 8 Ruuvi sensors, and so it's a lot of scrolling. eg. I would not need humidity sensor display on most, so could save some space. maybe also could be possible to choose which ones appear in the list, I could filter them out also, or set sequence, so could have key ones infront, or maybe split into two pages and assign sensor to page.I love the brief/overview screens, but this one would still need some tweaks. but overall loving this new GUI - great job.

I would agree that in this case less is not more. The additional spacing between temp/humidity pairs requires scrolling when no scrolling should be needed.

Some sensors do not have humidity so these should be narrower and allow more on the screen.

Looks like there is no way to set the meter levels, 60 degrees is the maximum. I assume @mvader (Victron Energy) puts this to his list of things.

I hope 60 is not the max, I have one of the wired sensors on my central heating circuit which controls a motorised valve through one of the Cerbo GX relays and that goes to 70degC.

in smaller Systems its additionally not really smooth in handling with the new gui. i have a small system with one tank sensor and two temp sensors and i have to switch between the pages. that was way easier with e.g. guimods on the startpage on the old gui. personally i don't even need the big bars for temperature, i keep looking at the digital values at the bottom all the time - those could be more obvious for me.

I like the gauges for tank levels and temp/humidity. They are so much easier to read at a glance than looking at a number.

I would second the idea of fitting as much on one page as possible. Maybe one long sideways scrolling list could be made with the buttons at top to quick scroll to the first tank or environment item?

I got my GobiusC with the NMEA 2000 interface (not sure what you mean with Bluetooth) a few days ago and my Cerbo exhibits the same behavior (with the beta and non-beta firmware). I've taken a look at the raw data with a CAN-analyzer and on the surface it seems fine but it does one strange thing. It's reporting 0xFFFFFFFF (=unknown) for the Tank Capacity (see spec for PNG 126719). It's an odd choice to omit it and I bet the Cerbo trips over it.

thanks! you are right it's over CAN/N2K, not bluetooth. I was suprised how it was quickly connected without any config, and somehow thought it was over bluetooth (as you have bt GobiusC app to configure the sensor). I need to spend more time with this. I believe it should go via PGN 127505 field 4.

1710143910293.png
for the 3.30~13 still wonder if it is not a bug that you cannot change the name of the sensor? if I give it a name:
1710144181235.png
click Back and go to Device again: instead of my previously entered name it has all spaces (I did Ctrl+A to show there are many spaces instead of my name):
1710144221597.png
I think this is a bug for this beta, isn't it?

I believe it's a bug in Venus OS that gets triggered due to the Tank Capacity being reported as 0xFFFFFFFF (this value is supposed to be the placeholder for "unknown capacity" but the Cerbo may read it as 4 billion liters). Just a guess. I see the same behavior with the beta and non-beta version.

FWIW: It appears this GobiusC model retains the Analog input/output functionality. Using something like the YDTA-01 works very nicely. Unfortunately the pinout is not documented (yet) but here's what I've got:untitled-diagram-2.jpg

Good Evening,

Any chance that v3.30 series of firmware for venus OS can fix the faulty data reading with Pylontech batteries, especially UP2500 series (24 volts) ?

1709933209302.png

This is Pylontech UP2500 units with firmware 1.1, I've tried to get hold of a newer firmware from Pylontech but haven't had any luck. Apparently there is newer firmware for the 48 volt batteries that fixes the above errors but not for the 24 volt series.

The errors are of course lowest and highest cell voltage is swapped, the min and max cell temperature is wrong (see separate post here on forum)

The number of battery modules isn't displayed, it can be computed from other values (my install for example gives on the display field 'Installed / available capacity' the figure of '1306 Ah', divide that by 111Ah which each UP2500 should have according to itself then thats 12 rounded up (which is correct)

The fields nr of modules blocking charge / discharge can to some extent also be computed from the CCL/DCL values - atleast when SoC is lower than 95% or so.

Any thoughts? @mvader (Victron Energy)

/Kaj

Hi @Kaj Lehtinen , @Andrew , @RayMiller

Do you, or anyone that has this problem, know to SSH to Cerbo?

If yes, could you dump the CAN communication between Cerbo and BMS into a file and post it here? You can use the "candump can1" command.

It could be possible that the info that comes from BMS to be mapped different into the CAN bus frames. If so, it may be possible to modify the /opt/victronenergy/can-bus-bms/ program to interpret your BMS messages... But no promises.

And first things first... Let's see that communication.

Hi @Kaj Lehtinen

The info decoded seems to be like this:

can1 359 [7] 00 00 00 00 0C 50 4E = OK, 12 modules, PN - pylon marker

can1 351 [8] 1C 01 04 1A 04 1A E8 00 = 28.4V max charge, 666A max charge, 666A max discharge, 23.2V max discharge
can1 355 [4] 3B 00 63 00 = 59% SOC, 99% SOH
can1 356 [6] 44 0A BF FE BF 00 = 26.28V voltage, -32.1A current, 19.1 deg.C temperature
can1 35C [1] C0 = charge enable, discharge enable
can1 35E [8] 50 59 4C 4F 4E 20 20 20 = PYLON
can1 379 [4] 1A 05 0C 00 = 1306A installed capacity, 12 modules
can1 373 [8] D8 0C D2 0C DC 00 96 00 = 3.288V min, 3.282V max, -55*C low, -123*C high !!!!!!!!!!
can1 374 [8] 01 00 05 00 0C 00 06 00 = above cells info in different format
can1 375 [1] 0A = above cells info in different format

No alarms and warnings are sent by the battery.
No modules info are sent by the battery.

Seems like the cells position info about min/max cell temp and min/max cell voltage is supplied in different format.

So, the min/max voltage cells can be swapped and shown correctly easily.

But the min/max temperature - I am a little bit puzzled about it. Either it is supplied in xx.y Celsius form or it has a different base reference than 273 Kelvin.

Can you tell me the temperatures shown on Cerbo in the same time you make another dump and read only the line with "can1 373" in front?

Also can you sent me the can-bus-bms program from /opt/victronenergy/can-bus-bms/ folder? I can take it from my Cerbo, but I am using the 3.20 version and you may be using a different one.

Thanks.

So the battery is at 14 degrees Celsius according the the remote console,

the requested line is

373 [8] E8 0C E1 0C A0 00 6E 00

One question from your decode is if the battery module count is there why doesn't Venus OS display that?

The temp formula can be the one that I linked to in original post, I'e this one. My install is reporting -113C as minimum and -163C as maximum - which also seems swapped. And translated by the below table (take from @RayMiller post) should be 16C as Min and 11C as max.

Hi @Kaj Lehtinen ,

"if the battery module count is there why doesn't Venus OS display that??"

Because Victron choose to take that info from another CAN ID, 372, that your type of battery is not broadcasting... That ID372 is holding much more information about modules and is much useful to process in one pass.

In attach you find the can-bus-bms program, specific to my 3.20 firmware. I don't know which version you have, but should work.

Extract it from the zip archive and replace your existing one from /opt/victronenergy/can-bus-bms/ with this one.

Don't forget to back-up the old one just in case. And don't forget to set the executable permissions for the file, if during copy those get deleted.

Then restart Cerbo and see if all is OK. The voltages and min/max cell temperatures should be OK now.

Alex

PS: Please don't hold me responsible if it's not working or if something bad is happening. These are modifications at assembly language level. Do it at your own risk.

and a MK3-USB Adapter to communicate to the Multiplus via the PC/Notebook USB-port.

After connecting VEConfigure with the Multiplus, the software notifys about availability of a new version of the ESS assistant and how to update

Hey @Kapi , thank you for the report - noted. We'll look into that and contact you if there are any questions.

In case necessary, is it OK if we log in to your system remotely? You'll have to enable the Settings -> General -> Remote support setting for that.

GX touch 50 won’t turn off at any time setting with v 3.30-15.

Wonder if due to a 1 mt HDMI extension cable.

It works with v 3.22

Hi,

v3.3~15 on Ekrano GX with GUIv2 (new site setup from scratch using new OS)

Other than some noted existing issues I have had the following items as well.

  • Cannot remote control from VRM just get an error to enable it and set or unset password. I make the changes on the GX and restart but no change. I have also tried from old GUI and no difference
  • Generator control - after starting the generator the button does not change to off. I had to use the VRM app to turn it off again as the GX UI only allowed me to start the gen again.
    1710382064955.png
  • DVCC auto select BMS does not select a BMS I had to manually set mine but system setup does auto select the BMS

Hi developers,

Now that you've added registers 4609 to 4612 for controlling the ESS functions of the Multi RS, is it too much to ask to make the Modbus TCP "com.victronenergy.multi / 4542 register / Relay/0/State" writable?

Thank you!

Since the update to 3.30-17 I have had a BMS lost alarm on the Pylontech battery from time to time.

After a restart the alarm goes off for a short time but then comes back immediately.

Back to 3.30-15 the alarm doesn't appear

Hey @19andy89 , while looking into this system we figured out that you are running modifications on your system.

Which also caused the problem; and explains why no-one else has come in here reporting such (critical!) bug.

We've stopped looking into it further - we don't diagnose modified systems.

Please a next time at least tell us when you have a system like that - thanks!

Sorry, that wasn't my intention

I didn't know that the Gui mod could cause such an error

Since the mod is not needed, we recommend setting the GX device completely to factory settings or uninstalling it is sufficient

Kevin Windrem avatar image Kevin Windrem commented ·

I suggest you uninstall GuiMods and any other packages, then uninstall SetupHelper, and finally reinstalling the firmware. This gets you back to a stock system. If you have still have issues, report here. Reinstall: switch to the backup firmware then use Online updates to install the current beta version again. This process will avoid wiping out all your settings.

If the issue is with SetupHelper or GuiMods and you wish to investigate further, please open an issue on the GuiMods repo:

I'm on 3.30~17 (same with 3.30~15)

Every time I restart the Pi or unplug and plug the Multiplus2/5000 I get the alarm:

Dynamic ESS error code: ESS functionality not available

I also can't see the new "System AC Limit" in the ESS Settings.

I have updated the ESS Assistant to 018C but I am still on the 506 Firmware.

If I deactivate DESS and activate it again, the alarm disappears.

Any ideas?

Hello,

In the Dinamyc configuration, it would be necessary to configure different powers for hourly periods. In Spain you can contract two network powers. One during off-peak hours and the other during peak hours. Schedules the same as consumption.
Could this configuration be enabled? Thank you so much.

Hi Martijn and team,

I have a request, could you please use the given 'Device Name' for the Analog Inputs instead of the 'Fluid type' you currently use as a name to pinpoint the device in the 'Brief' dialog screen and also in the 'Levels' dialog screen. I use the analog inputs for something different like measuring pressure. This doesn't correspond with any 'Fluid Type'. I use the 'Device Name' to tell me what is, like 'Oil pressure' or 'Water pressure'.

Could you also add the percentage in the 'Brief' dialog screen to tell me how much it is. The blue circles look cool but it's hard to figure out the actual percentage.

Scrolling to the bottom items in the Settings dialog screen doesn't work. It jumps back to the top.

Thanks,

Robert

This has been discussed previously (but can't find it with search) and this enhancement is not part of beta testing so really needs to be discussed as a separate issue.

The screen blanking was intended to make the display completely dark and even turns off the backlight because a dim glow is undesirable to some. Others would see showing something there as a good thing.

3.30 ~18 beta UI seems to sometimes get bit strange with the numbers.

See screenshow, the W have sometimes smaller font in the middle.
This seems to be ' jumping' with each update.

note: this behaviour appeared when the screen was running overnight.
Refreshing the screen made it run norma again... at least for the few minutes I observed it

I‘m missing an update regarding the speed of the 3P75CT. There was an Venus os and mk3 update here https://community.victronenergy.com/questions/196394/venus-os-v30029-available-for-beta-testing.html

To improve update speed. Is this not needed for the 3P75CT?

The then introduced better speed works for both the EM540 and the 3P75CT

(And doesnt require an additional Mk3 update)

The results with the 3P75CT are worse than with the EM24 in ESS mode (at least for me).

I have the 3P75CT connected to both Ethernet and VE Can.

I deactivated Ethernet (Modbus) in the Cerbo's remote console because I use the Modbus interface for Home Assistant.

Should I perhaps avoid VE.Can completely?

I'm almost certain I saw a much better speed in the beginning than I do now, when I only had the 3P75CT running over Ethernet.

This is documented in the update notice above. Production releases do not contain the beta, you need to remain on the last beta version if you intend to keep using that functionality, or wait for the 3.40 beta.

Hi developers,

Since v3.30~16 you've said that for Modbus-TCP, you've added registers 4609 to 4612 for controlling the ESS functions of the Multi RS.

Now that 3.30 is out and official, could you please update the Modbus register's list to reflect the modifications and us to know which ESS options those registers control?

Also you've said there and I quote "ESS functions of Multi-RS (note that those are still in RS firmware)"

By that "still", you mean that at some point those would be taken out from RS firmware?

Or that you don't need external control (like a Cerbo and/or assistants) for the ESS to work in Multi RS?

Thanks in advance,

Alex

Hey @Alex Pescaru , that line should've been removed from the changelog. Which I did just now.

ESS in the Multi RS is only in beta, since certification is still ongoing.

Thanks!

ps. meanwhile those registers are there, and are there to stay.

@mvader (Victron Energy) after updating today to the latest beta

the version is v3.30 and not v3.30~21

according to the log file I have requested the Release-candidate

for both my system one running on a raspberry pi3 and the other one running on a cerbo

it look like the beta is the same as the latest version v3.30

as when I now check for the latest version or the beta

there is in both cases no newer version

See mvader's comments of 3 hours ago announcing release of V3.30, gui-2 will be back shortly.

Good afternoon, v3.30 was released officially just now.

Thank you for all your valuable input!

Note that v3.30 does not include gui-v2 which is in beta; testing of that will resume shortly (a matter of days) as v3.40.
