Monitoring export to grid with MultiplusII GX

I have a MultiplusII GX as an AC coupled ESS system and it seems to be working OK.

But I want to monitor what is exported to the grid, ie when the batteries are charged.

On the VRM under "Dashboard" and using "System Overview" there is a window for export but it is zero today.

But if I look under "Advanced" there is grid monitoring which shows a fairly large export. probably getting on for 1KW.

I would have thought that it would also have shown under "Dashboard - Grid", but no.

How can the export be recorded, specifically in deciding if more batteries would be an advatage.

Thanks

Hi @Trevor4321

In Remote Console.. Device List > Settings > System Setup > AC Input 1..

Set Grid there, that should fix it.

Hi JohnC,

It is set for GRID, realtime it's working fine controlling charge and discharge of the batteries.

What I want is something that can give a daily total of electricity exported.

I have also noticed an anomoly with the "Grid" window.

1706868458516.png

This says that only 500W went to the battery, but,

1706868543055.png

I seem to have got 3KW out of it?

The batteries only connect to the Multiplus there is no way that they can get aditional charging from elsewhere.

1706868719045.png

For clarity the batteries started at 55%, got to 100%, and then discharged back to 55%. So batteries back to the same place as the morning but have magically created 2.2KW.

The batteries are 3 off Pylontech US2000Cs and the system is AC coupled, all controlled by the current sensor on the grid input.

Realtime monitoring seems to be correct but I want a daily total of what is exported, everything else is there.

Thanks

Trevor

If you click the solar dropdown you will see where it is going. So far my system I generated 47kwh of solar and 1.5 went to the grid.

The slight caveat here is that if you export from your battery to grid I dont believe this shows up but for normal Solar use where you start exporting once battery is 100% this should work.

I think there may be something wrong in the period 10:00 to 13:00. Very little battery activity yet the SOC jumps markedly. For 3x of those pylons is it possible? Can't see the figures from here, but maybe you can home in for a closer look at the balance over that shorter time.

Looking for clues, maybe your meter?? I can highlight this thread for you, but need better justification before crying wolf to the developers.

Hi John,

I assume that your solar panels charge the batteries directly which is monitored by the Multiplus II, my solar panels go nowhere near the Multiplus II, it is AC coupled.

I'm in the UK and the government set up a scheme to improve uptake of solar panels which pays you for electricity that is generated and runs for 25 years. I have some 12 years to go and the only way to have batteries is to have it as a totally seperate system.

The Multilplus II does not know that the solar panels are generating power it just monitors the grid connection. So I don't have a chart for solar.

The Multiplus II tries to keep the amount of power drawn from the grid to 50 watts. If more power is drawn and the batteries are above minimum SOC than the inverter will start to try and keep the grid sitting at 50 watts. Conversely if the grid drops below 50 watts, or indeed export, and the batteries are not full then the charger will charge the batteries.

So before 10:00 the batteries were at minimum SOC so nothing happened. Between 10:00 and 13:00 there was strong sun so to keep the grid at 50 watts the batteries were charged. After 13:00 the batteries were used to keep the grid at 50 watts until the batteries reach minimum SOC.

Looking at the grid view in "Advanced" power dropped to 50 watts at 9:25 and stayed at this level until 12:30 when the batteries were becoming fully charged and so started exporting to the grid.

At 14:52 there was not enough power being generated by the solar panels to export power and so the inverter would start until the batteries reach minimum state of charge at 18:37.

Meanwhile the Multiplus II doesn't know what power is being generated from the solar panels or what the house itself is using.

This is my interpretation of what the various charts are showing and I don't have a problem with that.

The monitoring of the grid is done as can be seen in Advanced - Grid, all I would like is the totals for each day of what is imported or exported.

At the moment I'm hoping there is a setting somewhere that can give me this, it could be put on the todo list for the developers, it's not a problem, just nice to have.

Thank you for trying to be helpful but I believe my system operates differently from yours so not directly comparable.

Thanks

Trevor

@Trevor4321

I'm quite aware that my own system is different to yours. I have no grid, nor ac-coupled pv at all.. :)

You have a grid tied ac-coupled system, and they can be set up in different ways. I won't say 'incorrect', but something in yours may be set up unconventionally.

You may not even want to find what it is, but maybe this as a start point if you do.. https://www.victronenergy.com/upload/documents/Energy_Storage_System/6292-ESS_design_and_installation_manual-pdf-en.pdf

Hi Marv,

I loose some of the options because the Multiplus II does not know about the solar panels, see explanation to John above.

But I am surprised at the discrepancy between the charge and discharge power if the batteries, I can only assume it is because the current transformer on the AC1 input has been replaced by a current transformer on the grid.

The discharge power must be taken on the DC side on the of the batteries or power going through the inverter, but the charge side must be being taken from soewhere else.

But thanks for your help.

Trevor

If you have an AC coupled PV inverter you need to install an ET112 meter to measure its output, then the Multi will display it all correctly.

See also this thread for a discussion of some of the shortcomings of the dashboard and how to interpret the readings.
