Temperature sensor not connected to negative terminal

Hi Everyone,

Does the temperature sensor of the Multiplus II 5000 measure temperature if it is not conected to the negative battery terminal (temperature sensor is left floating)?

Thanks!

Yes it will measure the temperature around it, the lug is actually not an electrical connection.

Not sure. Why is it specific in the instructions the it's connected to the negative terminal if there's no electrical connection to the lug?

The external temperature sensor for the Multiplus is glued in the cable eye, and is fully isolated. The cable eye can be mounted on to the negative terminal of the battery, or on to the negative busbar of the battery installation.

As far as I know certain battery types require a lower charging voltage during warm operating conditions and a higher charging voltage during cold operating conditions. In this case you need to do temperature compensated charging with the Multiplus, needing the externe temperature sensor.

A few installers are sticking the temp sensor on the side of the battery, Normally along the long side of the battery at about two thirds of the battery height, this is where the warmest electrolyte sits.
