What kind of damage can occur when an MPPT charge controller is mounted directly above the battery?

The manual states the following:

Mount close to the battery, but never directly above the battery (in order to prevent
damage due to gassing of the battery).

Questions about this:

1. Does this apply only to flooded batteries or also to sealed ones (e.g. AGMs)?

2. What kind of damage may occur (explosions? corrosion?) and over what kind of time frame?

Its the corrosion from the gassing of the batteries, if they don't gas and never will then there should be no issue.

Ie if you are using Lithium Phosphate batteries then no issue

Gas of batteries can simple cause an explosion on a contact problem, burning fuse a.s.o., that why its never recommended to place any electronic directly above a batterie . Agm/Gel gas less than normal lead acid" but can also gas extremly in case of a battery fail.
