DESS Charge and discharge values in DESS Settings are not followed

Hello all,

in the DESS Settings pages I set charge and discharge values on 10kWH. System A is set to 25A.

Every time the battery discharges or charges, then it goes to the limit of the battery (15kWh) and with charging to 24A. If there is then a small non critical load extra, the (main) fuse switches off.

(Changing to e.g 5kWh charge/discharge doesn't change this, any value doesn't change the maximum charge or discharge voltages)

For one reason the charge and discharge values in DESS Settings are not considered? Is this known behavior and what to do about it? THanks

The values are only information for DESS for calculation. You have to change them in the remote console under menu DVCC and/or ESS.

The information for DESS in VRM should be the same like configured in Venus OS remote console. DESS configuration will not change this values.

@Dirk_S , Thanks and will do. I’ve to admit that the instructionvideo from Victron shows somewhat different information. Thanks again.

In my experience both charge/discharge limits are used for planning but only charge limit is actually used in practice to limit charge rate. The discharge rate I see is unlimited and does not correspond to the plan at all..

In the parameters of your BMS you can set CCL and/or DCL to limit charge and dischargescreenshot-2024-07-26-114543.png

I know, but I don't really want to limit discharge current here as then it limits inverter power if I'm using lots of appliances (or need to charge car with then is power outage etc.) What I want is to limit the discharge power for DESS "trading", but not for usage.

The DESS plan does and use the dischage kW configured, so it shoudln't be hard for DESS to also limit the discharge current based on this. If it planned 3kWh discharge in a hour slot then it just needs to diacharge at 3kW. In my case though it doesn't and it discharges with no apparent limit at all until target SoC is reached.
