Hello, we’re trying to set up a new charging system on our sailboat. (12volt)
We have 2 365watt panels. We think we’re supposed to wire in series then to our 15amp breaker. Then to our Victron mppt150-60TR controller.
From the mppt to a 60amp maxifuse and then to the house batteries bank (3 4D AGMs)
Any advice? Thanks
Hi Jambeaty.
Looks good, just keep the wiring between the Mppt and battery as short as practical and use 35mm (2 awg) cable to keep voltage drop low.
I would use a mega fuse instead.
We measure 6’ between the mppt & the batteries. We have 4awg(25mm) wire. Do you think that size would be sufficient?
https://www.calculator.net/voltage-drop-calculator.html I work that out to a voltage drop of 0.18 volt (say 0.25v if you inclide a fuse+holder).
Thanks for the link on wire size/voltage drop.
Now about the fuse. Our salesman supplied this MAXI FUSE. (Along with the 4awg wire) Did he chose wrong?
Would this fuse type be acceptable?
4 awg will be ok, fuse holder looks v/good.
I would use a 70a (maybe even an 80a) fuse.
