victron easy solar 48v 3000/35 will it run a car 2 post hoist ?

hi,hope every one is well and thinking caps on !!

im currently running a workshop 3ph hoist of the 60kva big old generator, but have been offered a new 240v motor and pump swap for my 3phase set up, the new 240v motor is 2.6 hp and have tested a similar set up with a 240v assembly and seems to draw 3900w under load from 10amp plug , with average size car lifting from mid height under load.

it would be nice not to have the generator running all the time , as the hoist mainly goes up and stays there until work is done then hydraulically release pressure to drop, the average bottom to top lift time is 50 seconds. the hoist is used prob 2 times a day.

is this asking too much out of the 3000w muliplus, with a max surge of 6000w using a huge lead acid 48v 400 amp 2v forklift battery cell?

would using a capacitor bank between the motor and inverter soften the load ?

thanks in advance for your inputs and thoughts

@philipv

Let me guess you watched a Will Prouse video...?

Short answer will it? Yes. if it is the older MP a little less so if the MP2. But it will be an abusive use as it is already larger than the 2400w it is designed to run.

So - in reality - No. 3900W is already above the 3000va it is designed for. Especially since you want to repeat the action.

Use at least a 5kva with a battery that can proved at least 120A continuously. Even that if it is in a warm environment will throw an overload warning.

Also upgrade the 10A plug that is also too small for 3400W. It will get hot/slightly dangerous. 10A is also 2300w.

Since it is a motor the PF will also be awful. So chances are it is pulling more than you are measuring.

hi Alexandra, i had no idea who Will prouse was,

the main question was the early model multiplus has a max peak run of 6000w and a constant 3000w so would a max of 50sec , upset the multi, the 3900w was seen when starting the hydraulic motor when the vehicle was already half way up so instantly under a 1500kg load

Something odd here. 2.6hp is (roughly) 2kW. Yet you say it's drawing 3.9kW under load. Either the motor is different, or it's heavily overloaded.

Another factor to consider is the start up current of the motor. Batteries should handle it, but maybe not the multiplus

Hi Kev,

yes you are correct the 3.9kw was when starting the hydraulic motor under a load with the hoist half way up with a 1500kg car , i believe the system works with hydraulics hold the pressure inline holding hoist until the motor builds enough pressure to release pilot and then lift hoist, it also has mechanical safety stops every 60mm if all else fails.

webinar here says allow for 6x running current to start a single-phase motor

hi Sharpener,

yep was reading 3.9kw under load with a average car, i go back to garage today and see what a it uses with out a car on it and maybe a a heavier vehicle , the meter was just a cheapy in-between plug and socket unit, so no guarantee it was correct,

but i think with everyone's input i don't think i will even try it on the current 3000w may have to wait until the 10kw multiplus is on a sale

@philipv Thought about replacing the hydraulic pack with a smaller unit, or even a 12v job meant for tailgate lifters used on trucks?

Example 12v hydraulic pack

howde, yep did start to go down that route, even brought a 48v forklift motor and pump and even asked hydraulic specialist to supply a c-top electric 48v hydraulic solenoid /manifold worked out at $780 but then they wouldn't because of the liability side.
