How to limit inverter AC output?

Hi

If I install a Victron 8KVA inverter with 5kwh BSL battery with the idea to install an additional 5kwh battery in the future, is there a way to limit the inverter output to 5kw to prevent the battery from overloading/tripping because it can only deliver 5kw?

Thank you

Capacity and discharge limits are different things. The BSL's in that range are between 90-100A.

They use PACE BMS's which don't have a good rep for holding up in underspec environments.

The inverter will lean on the battery for load transients and any brownouts during grid failure, and that is way too much inverter for so little battery.

Yes, you can limit inverter output with ESS configured, but that won't help when exceptions happen and the battery has to provide, or sink, power.

You will also want to properly precharge the system before powering, as that one battery may not appreciate it.

In SA and our bad grid, you can end up with issues, so personally I wouldn't recommend it. But if you accept that you may have stability issues then the max inverter limit from ESS should do what you need for normal operation.

Yeah the system will be unstable as already noted.

It is best to either buy a smaller inverter to match the battery or buy another battery.

Another option is to not put all the circuits in the DB on it. That way it overloads events can be limited.

Is there a plan or upgrade planned in? If not dial back the inverter and expectations.
