Current/power into the battery (the battery is charging) is shown with a positive sign (no sign).
Current/power out of the battery (the battery is discharging) is shown with a negative sign.
Power from grid (you consume power from grid) is shown with positive sign (no sign).
Power exported to grid is shown with negative sign.
As it was described to me, every attempt was made to eliminate any negative values when displayed at least on the GX device. So the power and current are shown as a signless number for the "normal" direction of flow. For AC in, that's power FROM the grid. A negative number is shown for power TO the grid. For PV Inverters and chargers, a signless number is shown for power INTO the system from the device. For loads, a signless number is shown for power OUT to the loads. For battery, positive (signless) is charging, negative is discharging.
