I am using a Victron SmartSolar bluetooth 75/15 to charge my boat's lithium battery via 130W solar panel but have noticed that sometimes the battery overcharges.
Doesn't the controller prevent overcharging and how can this be avoided?

It rather depends on how it was programmed. So if you can share your battery specs and then the mppts settings that would be helpful (screenshot, pictures.)
Yes there is a mechanism to prevent it from being overcharged if it knows the correct information about where overcharged is.
