MPPT 100/20 Load issues

I run multiple MPPT 100/20 48V Charge Controllers at remote sites. Im having issues at one site with a load that should be supported but when I apply the load, the Load "TURNS OFF"

Im applying a 38.6 watts load and this unit should support up to 1160 watts at 48V


Logging into the device I am unable to turn the load on, unless I remove the 38.6 watt load

Im applying a 38.6 watts load and this unit should support up to 1160 watts at 48V

1160W is the PV power, not load power.

If used with a 48V battery, the load output is limited at just 1A.

What is that 38.6W device?

I clearly misread the spec sheet. So this will support a 20A Load for 12V, a 20A Load for 24V and only a 1A load for a 48V System. I would have thought it would support up to a 10A load for 48V as that is the same wattage as 20A for 24V

If I add Charge Limiting to the device and say I restrict Battery Charging down to 3-4 Amps down from the default of 20A, will that allow me to increase a 48V Load above 1A?

The 38.6W device is the total power consumed on a PoE Switch for remote Wireless / Broadband Communication devices


We have more than 20 of these running on 48VDC at remote sites with loads in the 25 to 45 watt range. And this one had been running for over 12 months with the 38.6 Watt load.

Can I expect the other sites to fail because of this limitation of the specifications

Here is data from a site with load output at an average of 55.5VDC where we have not had any issues. This and all of the other sites are set to charge limiting of 3A. It was that way at the site we now have issues with, but now no setting makes any difference

Use the LOAD output to activate a relay that switches your load.

I agree with this. Was just holding off on adding more dependent electronics in the remote site, but solid state relays are low cost and reliable. I don't want to connect direct to batteries as there is no protection to drop load all together and want to protect batteries from low voltage drain especially when it is below freezing
