Remplace multiplus ii 48/10000 by two muliplus il 48/5000

Hi,

I would like to replace one multiplus 48/10000 by two multiplus 48/5000 in parallel. Is there any disadvantage of this solution ?

Is it easy to make the master / slave control working ?

Thank you for your help !

Regards,

Parallel configs take very careful wiring to make sure everything is symmetrical.

Attention to detail is everything as it is an advanced setup.

The configuration is the easy part.

Two systems are less efficient than one and the less accurate your installation is, the more imbalanced loads will be.

If you already have a 10k, short of certification requirements, there is no benefit to having 2 smaller inverters instead.

Make sure you do the training and read all the docs on these types of installations to avoid problems.

But you can then disconnect the dead one and reconfigure the working one as standalone, so at least you have some backup in case of failure.

A possible reason to do this when when installing from new, but doesn't justify replacing a perfectly good 48/10000 with two 48/5000...

disconnect what?

ve.bus only and switch: 0?

If one MP dies then as well as disconnecting the ve.bus I believe you have to physically disconnect from the battery and AC outputs, and probably also the AC input -- it would be helpful if someone from Victron could confirm exactly what is needed... ;-)

This could be done by removing fuses to the dead one if these are separate for the two MP (which IIRC they should be), if not then cables need disconnecting.

All that is necessary is to turn the physical switch of the faulty unit to 'off' and reset system configurator to stand alone in the remaining inverter. No changes in wiring necessary just leave the switch off in the faulty inverter. Easy to do and only takes a moment. You can even do it with victron connect on a mobile phone using a otg adapter and mk3.
