Quattro 12/5000/220 Lithium Queries

Hi all,

We have a recently installed a Victron System on our yacht which I am having trouble getting my head around and really need some guidance please with settings.

Too be 100% honest, I have no idea what I am doing and being Friday I cannot get hold of anybody to assist. I'm keen to learn but being older the brain doesn't pick up too much quickly these days!! I have searched before posting but being new to this I'm not understanding a lot of the post contents

What I have noticed is the charge % keeps dropping, was 100% to 98% to 96% now 94% and wont go any higher on any of the charging options (the solar is also underpowered so most charging is done via shore power when in a marina or generator when out. We are out at the moment and will be for the next month or so, therefore generator will be the primary method of charging.

What we have

  • Gateway - Cerbo GX
  • VE Bus System - Quattro 12/5000/220
  • Battery Monitor - BMV - 712 Smart
  • Solar Charger - SmartSolar Charger MPPT 10/30
  • Batteries - 4 x 445ah Giant LiFeP04
  • DC to DC Chargers - Victron Orion TR Smart 12/12/30 x 3

Our charging options are

  • Shore power - 240v - Australia
  • Generator - Honda EU30is 3kva (I know its undersized but that's an upgrade for a little later $$)
  • Boat Alternator - Belmar
  • Solar - 2 x 375w Kyocera
  • Cabling done with 122mm squared and 144mm squared

Additional information

  • We use approx 400ah per day
  • We start the generator when we run high power appliances - air con, air fryer

I hope someone can take the time to help me out.

Cheers

Di

@Dianna

Will start with one of the basics....

Your ve config says you have 200AH installed. (In the battery monitor section) You describe your batteries as 445AH. But online i only see a 340AH model here.

If you have 4x 445AH 12v in theory you have 1780AH of battery installed? Is that correct?

This AH setting will also be on the BMV. So if they all mismatch then some things will not work as expected.

Charge efficiency should be 95% there as well on the battery monitor tab in ve config. Soc when bulk is finished also about 95%.

@Dianna The first thing to consider when looking at the SOC of a lithium battery is that 70% of the SOC is between the resting battery voltage of 13.3v (90%) and 12.9v (20%). Diagram from Giant. It seems familiar, but correct when interoperated correctly.

If you charge your batteries to 14+volts, they are considered fully charged. A little bit of time above 14+volts regularly will ensure that the batteries cells are properly balanced.

Once your batteries fall to 12v (resting voltage), they are considered empty. Inverter should shut down, charging should commence.

Hi Alexandra,

Thank you so much for responding, you have no idea what a relief it is to have someone reach out.

My bad, the batteries are 340ah as you linked, I dug out the receipt rather than relying upon my memory which I should have done first up - sorry.

So does that mean I need to change the battery charge to 95% and the capacity to 340ah or a combined total of 1,360ah
