Venus OS (on RPi) and Fronius Symo: Powervalue "freezing"/stuck/not updating

Hello Community,

I'm using Venus OS v2.92 without any Victron Hardware yet (testing platform; planing to buy MPII5000 and LiFePO4 battery).

Connected via Fabians (https://github.com/fabian-lauer/dbus-shelly-3em-smartmeter) great work I have a Shelly 3EM energymeter as a grid meter. This is working absolutely fine.

Also connected (via "Modbus TCP - sunspec" and "solarapi" tested) are two Fronius Symo 8.2-3-M inverters.

This setup was working flawlessly for about a month as suddenly the powervalue of both! inverters froze/got stuck. Remote console showed both! inverters as "connected" and it was showing "a" powervalue but this value didn't update. The grid meter was updating fine so network-issues seem not to be the case. After reboot via remote console everything was working again... for a day max.

At the moment I have to check and reboot Venus OS on a daily basis (or even more often) to get rid of this issue.

Any ideas in this community?

Thanks a lot!

I got it! The issue seems to related to a corrupt SD card. Installed Venus OS on a new card and everything is working fine for two days now.

Still weird that only PV stopped logging and grid meter did work without any problems. Any suggestion why?

Maybe this helps someone :-)

Updating to v3.00~14 didn't solve the issue.

I have the same problem with Cerbo GX, i need to restart venus os to get back the communication between cerbo and fronius.

I use ethernet for connection and everything is ping monitored, no network problem.

(i will try a new sdcard in the cerbo)

@fgingat I'd love to hear back from you if the new sd card helped as well. My issue is still solved to this day :-)

Ok, i've found the culprit .. the EM3 script was fullfilling logs .. 0% space left on device ^^

Updated the script and modified log configuration to 0 to EM3 script and no more stuck Fronius communication :)

Hi @ar_wi . I have a raspberry pi zero 2w running venus 2.90 and I'm planning to buy two fronius symo. I would really appreciate if you could tell me how you connected yours to the raspberry pi. I've read that it is as simple as connecting the fronius to the same router than the raspberry pi, and just scanning it from the gui menu. I don't know if that is the correct way of doing this, since you've said that you have used solarapi and suspec. Also I don't know If you are able to control both fronius separately. Thank you.

Hi @Jschz,

it is as easy as you red it. My Venus OS instantly found the two fronius inverters all by itself (using solarapi by default).

I mentioned the two possible protocols because you can also connect to the inverters via modbus tcp (sunspec) by enabling modbus tcp inside the fronius and searching for devices in venus os.

The two inverters show up separately. "controlling" maybe isn't the correct word. monitoring fits better :-)

Hope this helps

It helps a lot, thank you :)

What I intend to do is to monitor the two inverters using the Modbus TCP register list, so I supose that I'd have to do the connection via sunspec, right?
