Smart Shunt Ground

Will the IP65 Smart shunt work correctly if a chassis ground is attached to the negative terminal of a battery on one end and the shunt installed between the same negative terminal and the main on/off switch? To clarify, a chassis ground wire runs to the battery negative terminal, then a cable runs from the same negative terminal to the battery minus bolt on the smart shunt. The load minus cable then runs to a main on/off switch, then negative bus bar. Does the chassis ground have to be connected to the load minus or after the shunt. Hope this makes sense.

It is normally best to connect the battery only to the smartshunt and ground the load side of the smartshunt. That way if there is any leakage on the ground it gets measured by the smartshunt.

Thank you! Is it acceptable to attach the chassis ground to a negative bus bar that is connected to the load side of the shunt with a link bus bar?
