Phoenix 12/500 blowing fuse

Hi,

I tried plugging a 400w convector heater into my 12/500 inverter and it keeps blowing the 12v fuse.

Started at 10a and went up to 20a, still blowing.

It will run a 150w device fine.

Any ideas?

Also when on auto it wont recognise a phone charger and stay on.

Given that it is a 500Va inverter, you will need 8 awg cabling between it and the battery. A 60a fuse at the battery would seem appropriate to protect 8 awg cable.

Your inverter is rated at 400w @ 25c. You are at the upper limit of what your inverter can handle. Your load might be nominally rated at 400w, but in real life could draw more power, esp during start up.

Also when on auto it wont recognise a phone charger and stay on.

Eco mode does not always work, or needs fine tuning.

Phoenix Inverter manual. < a good read.

400W at 12V are around 33A. The fuse between the inverter and the battery should be 50A or 60A. The wires should be 10mm².

Hello, similar problem here: Pheonix 1200VA blows (regularly) this 250A rated fuse, while 1000W usage on the AC out from the 12V LiFePo4 battery

why? (yes got fat cables and all)

That's a cheap Chinese knockoff breaker, is why - those are known to cause issues in systems. It is not rated to 250A, I guarantee.

can u recommend a high quality breaker?

this one is even cheaper half the price of the one above: https://www.amazon.de/RED-WOLF-Sicherungshalter-Leistungsschalter-Schutzschalter/dp/B0943YGLVM/ or same even cheaper: https://www.amazon.de/Gebildet-Sicherungsautomat-Stromversorgung-Wasserdichter-Inline-Sicherungswechselrichter/dp/B0CLHY3PDC/?th=1 <- those are imho fire hazards! (yes they will pop but not before glowing RED!) :D (that's probably why it's called "RED WOLF" because it will eat ur house with flames!

this one is only for high voltage DC? (PV)
https://www.amazon.de/Heschen-DC-Leistungsschalter-Photovoltaik-Leistungsschalter-PV-Solaranlage-Solarmodule/dp/B0C7ZYZQ78/

really would like a resettable fuse, because 26,60 https://www.ebay.de/itm/266664695564 for a bit of fireworks ain't all that funny and sustainable...
