Hello, being that Pylontech batteries are utilizing their own BMS to set charge/discharge parameters, is the step below still necessary as is stated in the official setup documentation?

Yes.
If there is a loss of comms, the system needs to know what to do as a fallback. Loss of comms can happen for quite a number of reasons.
And the internal monitor is used for ESS programming so is also needed.
