multiplus compact 12/2000

I have a multiplus compact 12/2000 installed in an RV and while running on the onboard 5500-watt generator it keeps switching from On to Charge position about every 30 seconds. When connected to shore power it works OK and passes through. Wondering what the problem could be and how to resolve it.
