Can I wire an isolated DC-DC charger like a non-isolated charger?

I have no need to isolate my DC to DC charger on my camper van. But I don’t need anything bigger than 220W (alternator might not handle more than that), so I can’t go with the Orion-Tr Smart Charger non-Isolated 12/12-30 (plus the run is simply too far from battery isolator to house battery, I'd need 4ga wire for 30a and the Orion's only take 6ga max size).

Could I buy the Orion-Tr Smart Charger Isolated 12/12-18 and wire it the same way you would wire a non-isolated charger, positive from my start alternator (via start battery) and the ground from the charger just going to the chassis instead of (5 meters) back to the alternator?

Would that work?

Thanks in advance.

Why not use the 12/12-30 with a 6ga as short as possible to a buss bar, then connect your 4ga?

Yes, that would work. isolated chargers can be used in place of non- isolated.
