Bug: Multiplus II State shows External Control insted of Bulk/Absorbtion

Hi,


Since i updated two installations from 2.85 to 2.90-10 they are showing in the remote console and in VRM "external control" as state of the Multiplus II insted of Bulk or Absorbtion.

- Cebo GX; 3x Multiplus 2 48/3000; Pylontech US2000C; some PV inverter, EM24 powermeter

Hi @wirehead

This is not a bug. It is probably rather a matter of a correction because your Multis are BMS controlled (keyword is CVL, CCL and DCL) and lithiums don't know about bulk, absorption and float.

v2.90 – September 12th 2022:

  • Inverter/chargers: show state as "Ext. control"; instead of Bulk or Absorption, when controlled by a BMS/DVCC. When controlled by a BMS the inverter/charger would never show float, which caused questions. Now it just shows externally controlled, simpler, and more accurate: there is no bulk -> absorption -> float charge algorithm when controlled by BMS.

Might be interesting for you too, but I just noticed after installing the large-OS and implicitly upgrading to 2.93, the old "bulk" etc behaviour for the State returned (and the Ext. Control is gone).


The release notes for 2.93 are stating:

• Restore Modbus-TCP register 31, VE.Bus State. Per a recent version, that register returned "Ext. control" which broke customer implementations. Now the register will return the usual status (Bulk, Absorption, Float, etc) again, when the inverter/charger is in fact externally controlled by a smart battery.

Upgrading to 2.93 fix this issue for me.

This is interesting, as I upgraded to 2.93, large image, and in VRM it still states:

external controlvrm-external-control.pngvictron-version.png

Any idea?

Should have been more specific… on the dashboard it looks for me like for you, BUT if you look info „advanced“ the „VE BUS State“ diagramm now shows the „old behaviour“ again.

I can confirm the same behavior after upgrading to mp2 firmware 505
