BMV 712 Ve Direct on the shunt end

Hey just wondering if there is a solution to something that's annoying me.

I have a Pi 2 setup and connected to my inverter / scc. I want to connect it to my BMV-712 however the ve direct port is on the display and not the shunt where all the other equipment is.

Why on earth did they put it on the display module? Is there any way to get the ve direct from the shunt end? If not I have to run a 4 meter USB cable....

It is at the display because there is all the "intelligence".
If you need the Display your only way is to use a VE.direct or USB cable.
If you don't need the BMV Display you could also use the SmartShunt.

Ok looks like the drawers and kitchen pots and pans are coming out and I'm running a USB cable. Haha. Its completely on the opposite side to the Pi.

Thanks for the swift response.

@Boot103

The smart shunt has it on the shunt end.

And BMVs are more for remote display and other system or panel integration.

VE direct can run up to 10m.

Cool that answers my "do I need an active usb extender" question. Thanks.

Yes you can, but with a good quality extender it will work as well.
