My current setup is 100/50 mppt solar and a victron shunt. Have the network set to share voltage, current and temp.
adding the multiplus2 120x2. Do I need the ve bus smart dongle? To make it communicate with existing network?
Is the current sensor needed to use the different control panels?
If you do want to network them, then yes you need the dongle.
Otherwise it is not entirely necessary.
The current sensor is an optional item on the Multi2 it is not specifically mentioned in your model of multi 2x120. It will improve current readings if accurate monitoring is what you want. But that only makes sense if you are moving to a GX based system for co-ordination.
